Your machine is working properly, I am sorry to tell you that your machine does NOT
have that function. This is the
difference between Shift Lock and Caps Lock. 1) Shift Lock is
the traditional upper case used since the oldest mechanical typewriters 2) Caps Lock
(what you want) works like a computer, where you get upper case Alphas and
numbers. Brother does
include this feature on some models, but I am sorry to say not yours. If this helps

As far as you problem it's one of two things. First try a reset, hold the CODE key and Press the Key that has RESET above it. If the problem comes back after using the shift key again then it is a circuity board problem.

Check the print head/wheel to be sure it is securely in place.
