I am having an issued with my used typewriter that I just bought on Ebay which supposedly "works perfectly". Everything works fine until I press the shift key when I want to capitalize a letter and from then on, none of the keys type correctly. For example, an "m" will type out as an "r" or some other random letter or symbol. It just continues on with all keys not typing out correctly. What would cause this once I press the shift key?

Your machine is working properly, I am sorry to tell you that your machine does NOT have that function.

This is the difference between Shift Lock and Caps Lock.

1) Shift Lock is the traditional upper case used since the oldest mechanical typewriters

2) Caps Lock (what you want) works like a computer, where you get upper case Alphas and numbers.

Brother does include this feature on some models, but I am sorry to say not yours.

If this helps you, PLEASE log back on to this webpage and leave comment. It's nice to know that I am helping someone and not just wasting my time.

As far as you problem it's one of two things. First try a reset, hold the CODE key and Press the Key that has RESET above it. If the problem comes back after using the shift key again then it is a circuity board problem.

I hope the reset works for you!

Smith Corona XD 5500 - cant make work buttons except a few

If your Smith Corona XD 5500 typewriter is only producing specific characters and some buttons are not working, there are a few potential issues you can investigate:
  1. Check for Stuck Keys: Make sure none of the keys are physically stuck or jammed. Press each key to see if they respond properly and if any are consistently stuck in the down position.
  2. Clean the Typewriter Mechanism: Over time, typewriters can accumulate dust, debris, or dried ink, which may impede the movement of keys. Use compressed air to blow out any dust and try to clean the typewriter mechanism.
  3. Inspect the Ribbon and Correction Tape: Check the typewriter ribbon and correction tape. If the ribbon is improperly installed or the correction tape is stuck, it can affect the functioning of the keys. Ensure that the ribbon and correction tape are correctly threaded.
  4. Check for Mechanical Issues: Inspect the internal components for any visible signs of damage or misalignment. Ensure that all the moving parts are functioning smoothly. If you notice any broken or misaligned parts, you may need to seek professional repair.
  5. Verify the Keyboard Switch: Some typewriters have a switch to toggle between different character sets or functions. Check the user manual for your specific model to see if there's a switch that might be affecting the keyboard.
  6. Test the Typewriter in Manual Mode: Most typewriters have a manual mode where you can type without the ribbon or correction tape engaged. Test the typewriter in manual mode to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is related to the typing mechanism or the printing elements.
  7. Consult the User Manual: Refer to the user manual for your Smith Corona XD 5500 for troubleshooting tips and information about the specific features of your typewriter.
  8. Professional Repair: If the issue persists and you're unable to identify or resolve the problem, it may be necessary to seek professional repair. Contact a typewriter repair specialist or a local office equipment repair service for assistance.
Remember that working with vintage typewriters may require specialized knowledge, and attempting to disassemble the typewriter without proper expertise can lead to further damage. If in doubt, it's advisable to seek professional assistance for repairs.

This is strictly a remote control failure.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:

They also sell replacement remotes.
Or look on eBay, usually much cheaper if available.

Another thing would be to make sure the receiver's remote eye isn't picking up infrared from anything else in the environment.

Sounds like a power supply or a connector came loose in transit. If you know how to remove the case look for staples, paper clips etc. on or around the power supply and PC board.

Samsung yp-z5 scroll panel stopped working.

This is a common hardware fault with this player. I guess it is why the model has been replaced.

The cheapest solution is to buy a faulty player from ebay - around £10 including postage and replace your faulty one. Make sure to check the faulty one does not have the touchpad fault.

It is straightforward to replace the touchpad.
