I have an old Aiwa DX-666 cd player. It has developed a fault. When I insert a cd into the player, press play I get an "ERR" error message. It seems that the laser tries to start but can't. I suppose the laser is dead ?

G'day
If it is not reading the disc Table of Contents, you will most likely have a lazy spindle motor or laser problem. Parts are still readily available for this unit. They use an RF310 spindle motor, and the laser is a sony KSS210.
If you are inclined, you could have a go at repairing it. I suggest cleaning the laser lens with a cotton wool bud(Qtip) moistened slightly with windex, then polished with a dry one to remove any smears. Lens cleaning discs are not worth spending money on, as they seldom work.
Happy to answer any questions that you may have. Cheers
regards robotek

If the unit spins the disk but you still get this error, Then the optical laser unit would be the issue.

since this unit is discontinued I would doubt you find a part for it to fix the player.

You could try a cleaning kit, its a cd that has little brushes on it that you put inside that will clean the lens.

Hello I have a Aiwa CX-LMN5 that displays ROLL ERR 0. It won't eject or load CDs. But I can hear a motor inside making noise for a while before the error message displays.

It could be as simple as a broken belt that drives the tray that holds the CD. You will have to look inside and see. Sometimes the door can get stuck if it's been knocked out of place too!

Denon udcm m7 cd player often reads ERR on play and eject

Try cleaning the laser first. Take care, because it is delicate.

Some instructions of how to clean a CD laser:
http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-a-CD-Player

If the cleaning does not fix the fault, it is possible that the laser is weak, or there are some problems in the electronics in the CD player. This is not something you will be able to service yourself, unless you are properly trained, have experience, and have the proper setup to perform CD player servicing.

In most cases these CD players are not cost effective to service. You can contact the orignal manufacture for details or any recomendations.
