Voice Mail is not a function or feature of any telephone set,
nor does the GE 29581 phone have an Answering Machine
System that might be confused with Voice Mail.
VoiceMail is an option offered by some (not all) Telephone
Service Providers. Check with your Telephone Service
Provider to learn how to go about using theirs if it's available.
The original GE 29581 phone User's Manual is available at:

What worked for me was to call my phone from another phone and leave myself a voicemail. I then went in and retrieved and deleted that voicemail. Once I hung up from my voicemail service my handsets reset about 10 seconds later.
does it say do not disturb? if it does press the red button on the base.... if not then your tring to use it with a voip provider (i.e comcast, Vonage, skype..) this phone wont ring for some reason with out a very specific ring frequency....
Press the mute/program button, then press the caller ID-volume button to select handset setup (then press mute/program again to select this option). Next press tye caller ID-volume until you get to Default settings (its the last setting so pressing the up arrow is the fastest way to it). Press the mute/program button again to select the option. Use the caller ID-volume button to select 1yes. This will return the phone to the factory settings and for took care of the blinking blue light, however you will loose any custom setting or numbers you entered.
The first time I did this it didn't work, so I did again and toward the end of the steps above the phone beeped at me and stated "Reset Default Settings" (or something like that) then time I hit the mute/program button again and everything worked great. I think that last beep maybe have been a are you sure you want to restore to default question.
Remember tis will erase any custome settings you made on the phone (ring tones, ring volume, memory, etc.)
Your ringer has been switched off..to solve this press the menu button(mute in most of the sets)and press it until you see the option ringer press + to change it to off and then press menu again until you see the main screen...Thats all.. Let me know if it worked..
