I plugged in simple save (hp md 1000h) it took me through a quick install and now I can't access it anywhere. when I click on my computer and (k) port which it is plugged into, the window has 4 folders:1) documentation 2)hp simple save application_patch 3)hp simple save 4)hp simple save logo. all these either have data files or do nothing. when I click on hp simple save folder, a box that says simple save appears for a second then disappeared. I think it is copying my whole computer. I just want to save in it a few folders. how can I get to settings or options???
Ask how to use simple save at HP
read the manual.
http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01824301.pdf
its just a hdd/sdd external drive.
one can drag files to it any time. using windows explorer.
or run backup programs. of any kind.
what do you want do do with the drive??
tell the jobs you want to complete, tasks.
answering for JOB BACKUP MY DATA:
tell what PC you have?
tell what OS you run?. (avoid xp and vista, ok?)
if you just want to backup files
you can even erase all the junk on the drive now. even format it.
then with the new K: drive there
you can drag or copy files there all you want.
using explorer (my computer,"this PC"-windows 10.) drag and drop for SURE works.
it is just a hard drive inside that box
and uSB to SATA interface chip that makes the HDD look normal on any USB port.
make sure the DC power pack is attached to the HDD power jack. and AC wall wart plugged in.
Next time tell what PC you have.
what OS you run windows 7 to 10 is best
then tell what cables are connected,
AC power? pack
USB
and if you tried all PC USB ports of one fails.
when you first use any drive like this USB
make sure the PC is internet connected
or the USB driver for the DRIVE external
will not load and work right,
you need the internet to make PnP plug and play work and do its job.
seems yours works , only how to drag files
or comp them is confusing.
you can also buy and use backupsoftware.
This is best avoided, IMO.
just drag the files so if you need them latter
no need to, decompress them or worse decode them will be necessary.
Notwithstanding high end backup software is super good, and is so if you can recover 1 of 1000 files , in compressed format later.
(acid test there)
disappeared?
if the files in the external hDD suddenly go missing>? (hide)
that means you forgot to plug in the DC power pack and the motor in the hDD slowed down due to gutless DC power on the USB port.
HDD us lots of power, make sure you use the pack , oK? (most are marked 12vdc 2.0Amps)
if using the wrong pack, oops a daisy. fail.
always use the DC pack for HDD . external.

SOURCE: wanting to scan from scanner to computer
this happened to me too. i don't know how to fix it on the printer, but i scanned it through the computer. i went into the hp solution center, went to the scanning section, and told the printer to scan it from the computer. it worked fine. that way you don't have to save it to a memory card or anything. they went to the same folder all my other scans go to.

Enter your personalization and registration information if required.
When prompted, specify the portable hard drive as the install directory.
Begin the installation normally.
Restart the computer when prompted and access the boot menu again. Select the external hard drive as your boot source and press "Enter" to ensure the installation succeeded.
Use this process to boot from your portable drive on any computer.
