Maytag top loader not spinning

I've been having an intermittent problem for the past few months, the washer was only spinning out my clothes with small loads. Now it won't spin at all and I smell something burning. I've replaced the belts, but nothing. Read a couple of forums and they mention the motor, spin solenoid and drive coupling. Do you think it's worth me pursuing this myself or should I just get a new washer?

Thank you in advance

    Hi Julian,

Thank you for the opinion. I looked up the directions for replacing the motor and think I'll buy a new one instead. But thank you anyway.

Thats correct , need to replace the MAIN MOTOR, all that you mentioned (drive coupling , spin solenoid) there inside the MOTOR , since they manufacture the MOTOR sealed, it makes it impossible to repair , so if your handy with tools I suggest to get a new motor or a refurbished one , price range from $35.00 up to $90.00 , hope this info helps , AJ

Maytag Atlantis Washer makes loud noise only during wash cycle (not spin)

Top Loader? That sounds like a gearbox problem. It is not an easy fix. With that much use and those many years, it is probably time for a new one. A new High Efficiency Front Loader, will save you a fortune in water, electricity and detergent.

Try this forum though if you want to try and get it fixed.

My GE top load washer is about 5 months old. It fills up and runs through the agitation cycle but then stops at the end spin cycle. The clothes just sit in the water. I checked the hose for kinks and...

I have had this problem with two of my previous washers a top loader and front loader. Each time it was a faulty pump that drains the water from the tub after the wash cycle is complete. If the water does not drain from the tub the machine will not go to the spin cycle. Both of my washers were 5 or 6 years old when this occurred. If the washer is only 5 months old it should be under the manufactures warranty. Good Luck.

Makes a grnding sound when washing(not always) & does not spin all the water

This problem happen to me a few months back--washer was 6 months old. A technician came out and told me that I must have loaded the washer after the water was in the tub. He stated that I must load my washer prior to running the water in because the water fill amount is based on weight; therefore it was now weighing too much. Go figure...have always loaded the washer with water first and clothes last. I always put clothes in first then the water--I must say, the problem has not reappear.

Hope this helps.

Washing machine spin cycle

chances are the pump may have something in it or the drain line is kinked a little front loader machines have a clean out on the pump that you can get to buy taking the lower front panel off.top loaders you have to pull access cover in the rear and pull hose off and check for blockage also check belt tension and quality of belt

Lopsided during spin

This can be caused by a brake that has failed.  Try to spin inner tub with washer off.  It should NOT turn.  If it turns the brake is bad and is allowing the tub to spin when agitating.  This causes clthes to bunch up.
