Hopefully you have backups. Always make backups periodically. If you can't access the hard drive, there are computer services that possibly could recover your info, but they are also expensive. Most people don't realize how important backups are until they need them. Of course, you can reload your programs that you have the original CDs. Good luck.

Hi, I usually use GetDataBack (2 versions FAT and NTFS). I have used this program to recover files from HDs similarly connected (external case > USB). The freeware versions will allow you only a limited number of files at a time, the paid version will allow you to recover all (including purposely deleted files). There are similar programs/freeware but my experience with GetDataBack has been super so far that I really have no reason to look for another one. Pls refer to the 2nd image on this link where GTB was recovering files from an HD that is not even recognized by Windows XP in "My Computer". http://www.fixya.com/support/t191153-device_recognized Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

You may need to try installing windows xp. I had a gateway that had a brand new hard drive and wouldn't take 98, but installed xp flawlessly. Look at the computer and see if it says designed for Windows XP

With the new controller card attached to the old drive, try to attach the hard drive to another computer via a EIDE/SATA to USB adapter, this way the other computer will read the drive as an external. Now open up Administrator tools in the control panel and click on computer management, then click on disc management. All drives attached to the computer will show here, whether they are active or not. Now find your drive, it will probably show up in the lower column with a drive number but no letter. Right click in the square where it says drive is "offline" click on initialize drive, follow the prompts and click on what ever it suggests. If it goes through the drive is initialized, if it comes up and says "drive not ready", then it means the control card swap sis not work and the drive is a complete loss. Your only option at that point is data recovery in a "clean room" facility.

The PXE error is not from your harddrive. the computer has failed to reccognise the HDD and so moved to the next bootable option being network, the PXE error is telling you that it cannot boot from network
I would only replace the board on the hard disk with another (same model) if you realy need the data on there. it is possible that the drive is failing because the heads have locked and so replacing the board will not fix, but if you have access to an identical drive its worth a try.
if you dont realy need the data, replace with another compatible drive and reinstall.

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this file recovery program called asoftech data recovery to recover your files.

Hi mayahi_nader, you can recover your files if there is no sounds coming from your HDD (like tik tik tik) and it is still usable and maybe just a OS problem only..
To backup it, you need an adapter from laptop to external HDD (USB type) it is cheap only in our country and assume in yours as well. You will just plug it into laptop then you must be patient to wait sometimes takes 30 mins to comes up(if there is a disc issue). And when it showed just use it like an ordinary USB device.
