Thank you to coolguy88 who solved my problem by pointing out the obvious: reinstalling the drives for the printer, which I didn't know where seperate from the other parts of the all-in-one. Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi i have a Canon MP830 and have replaced all the ink cartridgers and they all light up but my printer wont print, fax, copy. It sounds like it is printing but the pagers come out blank. It won't even send...

Some laptops cannot run some printers or scanners. Make sure your laptop can handle running the printer from a usb port. It might help to have your laptop plugged into AC power. Also, make sure you have the most current printer drivers for your particular OS installed. If your laptop can't run your printer from its usb port, you can probably connect the printer to a desktop usb or a printer port, then print from your laptop through a home network.

I have the Brother MFC-240C printer connected to by laptop. I have Vista 64. The printer works but I cannot scan, it says connecting to computer but nothing ever happens. What do i do?

First do you have the full software installed? Select your version of Vista (32- or 64- bit) here: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc240c_all

If you attached the USB cable to the computer and the printer before installing the full software, uninstall the generic driver that you have running and then unplug the USB cable before installing the full software. (Generic OS drivers often only run the printer on an all-in-one.)

Next replace the USB cable (scanning requires bi-directional communication and thus can fail when the printer works). If you have a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection. Try starting your scan from the computer. (Launch the software (PaperPort SE) and hit the scan button, if your installation CD had a Vista compatible version. Otherwise, try to scan in Paint (File > Import from Camera or Scanner) or Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan))

Next make sure that the monitor program is running if you want to launch the scans from the unit. This is the ControlCenter 3 - and you need to set the destination buttons for the scanner in the software. Look for the Device Button tab for each of the scan icons in the software.

I hope this helps.

My scanner isn't working

I suspect you didn't install the full software for the all-in-one on your laptop. Thus you got a generic driver from the OS. If you have the generic driver, uninstall that one, unplug the USB cable and install the software from http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=2610&modelid=12764#DownloadDetailAct and pick your OS. When the program prompts you to connect the USB cable to the computer, do so.
Another issue may be that you haven't programmed the MP Navigator with destinations for the buttons on the scanner or you don't have the monitor running to identify when the scanner buttons are pressed.

If you can start a scan from the computer, it is probably one of the later two issues.

I hope this helps.

(the generic driver from the OS usually only runs the print functions on an all-in-one.)

Not working?

You'll need to install the copier drivers to your laptop to get the print options to function. Don't confuse fax functions with printer functions. Having the unit hooked up to the phone line allows you to send and receive faxes. You need to be hooked to your PC/laptop with the proper print drivers installed in order to print.

Trying to scan photos from my laptop wireless

This is just a wild guess, but I've had a similar problem with a Brother All-in-one printer/fax/scanner. I can print just fine to it wirelessly, but to scan I need to connect my laptop to the Brother device using a USB cable.

I just got a new Dell Windows Vista Laptop. I currently have a Brother 7420 printer, fax, scanner, copier combo. I can't get the scanner to work. Please HELP... Thanks, Pam

I presume the print and fax parts work. Can you make a copy? Have you checked the driver software? The CD that came with the equipment usually installs the scanner software as well. try reinstalling the software and see if it works.

Wont work

Hi,
The issue you have posted does require little more information in order to isolate the issue to fix it. Information like have you installed the printer driver and connected the printer cable to the system in your system for the printer to communicate, are you getting any error messages when you are trying to scan or print, weather you have used the printer earlier and it was working fine till the recent past or it was just being used for sending faxes only and printing and scanning was not tried earlier, However let me provide you few steps that you cold try to fix the issue.
  1. Click on start point Control Panel and click on it.
  2. In the control panel window click on the icon labeled “System”
  3. Click on the Hardware option at the top and then click on Device manager.
  4. On the device manage page check if you have any devices under “Other Devices option with a YELLOW ! mark, if so right click on the device and left click on uninstall.
  5. Close all the windows and then insert the Driver disk for the Printer in the CD/DVD Disk Drive to install the drivers for the printer.
Note: At this point of Disconnect the printer cable if it is connected to the system tower, and do not connect the cable until the installation wizard prompts you to do so.

If you do not have the Printer driver disk handy then you can download and install the printer driver form the link below:

http://printers.free-driver-download.com/Brother/25079/Brother-MFC-3240C-Printer-&-Scanner-Driver-USB-v.A-Windows-98-ME.html

  1. During the installation the wizard will prompt you to connect the printer USB cable to the system tower, so go ahead and connect it.
  2. Once the installation is finished restart the computer.
Should you require any further assistance regarding the
printer or even require assistance regarding any other
computer related issue in future please feel free to
contact me I will be more than glad to assist you.
