Posted this to the original problem, but here it is again for you :)

Hi hish

Sure mate... so long as you upgrade me to a FixYa... :)

It is a smallish part situated near the main processor, sometimes even on the front panel PCB. I cant recall exactly where on you model. But will look like one of these, and probably is one. 0,47F 5.5volt is the common value. Best place to get one may be from Farnel(the link i gave you). They are in many countries of the world, and generally have stock. Check it out and get let me know if you found it. :)

My onkyo receiver (tx8511) keeps going to protect mode when turned on. I have changed the fuse, but dont see any way to overide this mode. Is there another fuse or some way to turn off protect mode

Hi there
To answer your question;
Your amplifier goes into protect mode when it detects a fault or condition that could damage the speakers and/or the output stage.
Often caused by shorted outputs.
Although this does`nt tell you much on how to fix this problem, the best help i can give you at this point is to tell you to have it looked at by a repair shop.
Hope this help good luck

Would you use a TX8511 with a HD TV?

It's not the TV you really need to be concerned with but the audio that comes with its programming. Get it from the video sources directly, not the TV.

Why not, but you'll only have stereo sound.
