This should help you install the drivers so that your calculator can communicate with your computer (Windows-based). Please read the post to the end. If you have any problem, post a comment to this thread.

Install TI Connect 1.6 for Windows then try connecting the calculator to the computer using the TI SilverLink cable (if you have one). It goes into the Round IO port.

If you do not have a USB SilverLink cable, you can use the mini USB to USB Direct cable but you will have to install the correct driver for it.

I do not know what computer operating system you are running and I use Windows XP so I will describe the installation procedure for Window XP SP3.

Install TI connect 1.6 for Windows; if your system is Vista you must install a patch available on the TI website, at the same page where you find TI Connect.

After you install TI Connect, connect you calculator to the computer with the mini USB standard USB Direct cable. Windows will detect the calculator and will try to install the drivers. You will have something that is similar to what is on the three screen captures I am inserting in the post. On the last screen, choose the TI Educational Handheld device and click next.

After the installation, click finish.

Run TI Connect to verify that the calculator is recognized. Connect your computer to the Internet and click the Updates Button on the TI Connect tool bar.

Verify that the I/O port (the round one) does not contain any foreign material. Also, for transferring files batteries must be in excellent condition.

Suggestion: If you are able to establish communication with the calculator through TI Connect software, you should consider upgrading the OS to version 2.53 MP. It is a major upgrade for the OS of TI84Plus (not the TI83Plus).

When i turn my calculator on it says "RAM cleared". It is then very slow . . . what is wrong and how can I fix it?

Hi yeager anna,

Since the calculator operates slowly even after the RAM has been cleared, I'd say, "Your OS must be corrupt." You need to re-install the Ti 84 Plus OS, ASAP!!! You can fix this problem by installing the newest Ti 84 Plus 2.55v. MP OS, operating system. Use fresh batteries when installing the new OS. If you need additional instructions your welcome to read my Ti 84 Plus solutions. I pretty much tell how you can install the new OS with another Ti 84 Plus calculator or, connecting the computer to the calculator to install the new OS. You can view my solution to install OS by clicking, "Ti 84 Plus OS installation." Just stroll down to oneplusgh's solution at that posting and, I cover a lot of topics you may need advice on to install the new OS.

If you need instructions to downloading and installing TI Connect on a XP or, Mac computer click, "TI Connect on a XP or Mac computer." I realize this posting was for a later OS but, this link will take you to the latest TI Connect software and, newest OS too. Once you get the TI Connect software installed come back to this posting and, follow the instructions above at "Ti 84 Plus OS installation."

If you need instructions to downloading and installing TI Connect on a Windows 7 computer click, "TI Connect on a Windows 7 computer." Just follow Procedure 3. You can also get instructions at this link on how to install the Ti driver to link computer and calculator. I realize this link instructions were for a Ti 89 calculator but, they will work for a Ti 84 Plus too. Once you get the TI Connect software installed come back to this posting and, follow the instructions above at "Ti 84 Plus OS installation."

My instructions is geared to save you a lot of hardship. No matter if your having to install Ti Connect or, the newest OS for your calculator. I do not use TI OSDownloader because, TI OSDownloader might not give you the newest OS for your calculator. My instructions will. If you have any questions just post a comment and, I'll respond quickly.

I need to download something to my TI-84 plus calculator, but i dont have the disc it came with. What do I need to do?

No need for the disc. Go to the education.ti.com website. Click Download menu, select Software and apps, Select Graphing calculators, TI83PLUS/TI84PLUS family and find the TI-Connect 1.6 connectivity software.
Install it on the computer then connect the calculator to computer with the TI SilverLink cable . Open TIConnect, Drag and Drop applications on the TI Connect main window to transfer to calculator.

If you use the USB mini to standard (Direct cable) you may have to install the drivers.
In Windows, when the Found New Hardware window asks you to look for the driver do not let it do it automatically. , select option "Let me show you where it is (not the actual wording)" and make sure you select TI Educational Handheld.

Ti connect doesn't find it.

If you use the TI USB Silver Link cable there should not be any problem. In case of problems, download the latest TI connect software and install it anew.
But if you use the mini UsB to Standard USB Direct cable you will have to install manually the correct drivers.
