Question about Cavalry Storage Cavalry 500GB 3.5 7200RPM USB 2.0 External with One Touch Back-Up 500 GB Hard Drive

Open Question

I couldn't get the message to come up that it was safe to disconnect my cavalry usb drive so I turned the computer off. (XP SP3) Now whenever I plug it in I get a message that it is an unknown device and windows can't run it. I've uninstalled it in device manager but when it re detects it I get the same message and the yellow mark again. If I plug it into a laptop with win 7 I have exactly the same problem so I believe the problem is in the drive, not the computer. How can I fix it? Engineman

head crashed is the most likely reason.
drive has lost its directory and boot segment address.
you have lost your drive functionality.
the drive would need to be much larger than average to bother fixing, but if you need the data, then you can send it in for repair. expect 500 to 2500 for data recovery/repair.
sorry for the news.

Windows xp sp3 stop error message 7e usb

Why not just pull it out instead of clicking on safely remove hardware? Try it and see if it works. Sounds like your usb drive is not windows 7 compatible. Or windows 7 has some driver issue which is not uncommon.

Forgot to turn off before unpluging it, now my laptop will not detect

Try it on a different computer if possible. If it shows up, run chkdsk /f on it from the command prompt. If chkdsk /f fixes corruption, try it then on your Tosh laptop. There is a space between CHKDSK and /F

When the Samsung YP-3U is plugged into the USB port, it registers as disconnected and the computer can't find driver files for it. The computer has been fully updated and is running Windows XP with SP3.
