Epson photo 950 both ink and paper lights continuosly flashing alternately

    Hi what stop or cancel button are you refering too? the buttons on the printer are on/off , out of paper, inkcartridge indication and what looks like continuos paper roll button, please advice thanks

    Your comments are most constructive, I had attempted your suggestions prior to your contacting me with no success i have since dumped the printer as it was appx 7 years old and as you commented reached its end of life. i had taken it apart and found a great deal of ink on the pads and i am in the process of deciding on a new one. i must say you are most helpful and answered my question as i would have expected a knowledgeable person to handle my original request for help.

This is an ambiguous error message. It could mean that the waste ink pads are full, a different maintenance error or a fatal error.

To check if it is the waste ink pads: Try this: Hold down the roll paper and paper buttons when turning on the printer. As soon as the lights start to blink (within 3 seconds) momentarily release the buttons and then press and hold the roll paper button, holding it for ten seconds. Both of the lights should flash, release the button and the printer should go into its normal standby mode. If this works the waste ink pads should also be cleaned or replaced, lest they are apt to overflow.

To clean the waste ink pads (small absorbent pieces) you need to disassemble the printer and get under the printer cartridge carrier. The pads absorb ink during cleaning and from the edges of borderless pictures. You need to have lots of newspaper to keep the ink from getting everywhere. Take the pads out and blot the excess ink off them, blot the excess ink from inside the printer. Then run water over the pads until no ink remains. Let the pads dry completely (you can use a blow dryer to speed the process up) and then reassemble the printer. Epson has a reset utility for some of their printers but you must provide a serial number to get access to the download. It was at http://www.epsonhelp.web1000.com/wip.html but I can't get the page to load today.

http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/printhead.html describes cleaning the printhead using the solution available from http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/epson/K70 . The printhead can clog from sitting but the above cleaning process can do it if the unit is open for too long.

http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html can reset other maintenance errors. (Use this with care - it can cause more problems).

The other fatal errors mean take it to a service center for repair or buy a new printer.

Please note that the waste ink absorber error is supposed to occur near the end of the expected life cycle of the printer. Additional failures may occur soon.

* Green Power light flashes- The printer is receiving a print job, replacing an ink cartridge, charging ink, or cleaning the print head.
* RED paper light is On- If the CD/DVD try guide is open, close the CD/DVD tray guide, load paper, then press the paper button. Your paper ran out or multiple sheets loaded at the same time . Load paper and press the paper butoon to resume printing.
* RED paper light flashes- Paper is jammed in the printer. Press the paper button to eject the jammed paper. If the light is still flashing , open the cover and remove all paper, including any jammed or torn pieces. Then reload paper and press the paper button to continue printing.
* RED Ink Light Flashes - One or more cartridges are low on ink. Check the message that appears on your screen to determine which cartridge is low, or follow the instructions in " Checking the Ink Supply". Make sure you have a replacement cartridge.
* RED Ink Light is ON- One or more cartridges are out of ink or not installed. If you have just installed a new cartridge, it may be incomaptible with the printer or incorrectly installed. Reinstall it or replace it with the correct cartridge
* RED Ink and RED paper lights flash alternately- The CD/DVD tray guide was left open when you turned on the printer or when printing on paper. Just simply close it/
* Green Power Light is Off; RED paperand RED Ink Lights flashing- Paper may be blocking movement of the print head. Turn off the printer, then open the cover and remove any jammed paper or other foreign objects. Turn the printer back on again. Or it may have an internal error. Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.

Manual Counter Reset Method
To manually reset the Ink Jet Counter that compels you to clean your waste pads. For the tip on how to clean your ink waste pads go here.

Please Note: In some cases, your printer may be leaking ink so much and so often that not only does your ink pads need cleaning, but you may need to replace the ink reservoir on your printer or you will have a leaking mess on your hands. This is a decision and judgment only you can make. If your printer is leaking quite of lot of ink, you may have to take it to an authorized Epson Repair Shop or Person. Find an authorized location by starting at Epson.com

The solution below is valid for most of the following printer models listed below this solution, some listed may not work, some not listed may also work it varies as this method is listed below is illegal for an authorized Epson Tech to release.

Thanks to the many user boards on the Internet for this solution that I know has worked for people I've helped here on FixYa.

Don't be discouraged if it doesn't work the first time. The key is in pressing the buttons exactly at the same time. So if this doesn't work the first time, try again and try again. Most people state they get it eventually.

"Press and hold the paper feed, paper switch and the power switch.

Once the power light and paper light flashes twice and the other lights are flashing release the paper feed and paper switch "and then press the paper feed switch".

The power, paper and ink lights will flash twice. At this point the protection counter has been reset."

Don't give up, if it does not reset the first time. The timing is tricky for some people.

Supported Epson Models that I am aware of, others not listed may work and some listed also may not work, it varies but don't be discouraged to try and try again.

Flash feed paper & ink light my epson r1800 printer
Do you mean that the paper light flashes at the same time as the ink light or do they flash alternately (ie: paper on, ink off -> paper off, ink on)?

If so the waste ink pads are full and you need to do the following:

1. Reset the waste ink counter:
Grab the tool linked from the wasteink.co.uk site (see bottom).

2. Redirect your waste ink into an external tank OR replace your waste ink pads.. (external tank is easier).

Instructions for the R1800 are available from this site



If the lights are doing something different, please post again with detailed information about how they flash and I can what else it might mean.

when ever you want to refill ink make sure, that the ink you refill decompressed for about 30min before you fix it into the printer.
Another thing is that you uninstall the software of the printer and reinstall again, and check the power supply of the printer is working perfectly.
