RCA R52WH74 rear proj 52inch...gets dark and then fades to black

We have owned this TV for right at 1 yr and it is already a problem. After watching for 5 to 10 minutes, it will instantaneously get very dark and then fade to black...sound still on...and it will sometimes come back after a while. Any ides?

Yes ,your set like so many others is one of RCAs biggest mess i would say if under warranty get to service center fast!!!! other wise you might be one of the lucky ones that only needs power supply broad solder start with Flyback transfomer solder all pins.

Other than cleaning the three lens inside and the mirror it may be the age of the set.

My 61" hitachi rear proj has a very dark picture.

It sounds that lamp in TV is weak and not throwing enough light to bright the screen for good image.
How old is this TV and did you replaced its Lamp recently?
If lamp has not been replaced yet or in last 2-3 years, replace it.

Resolder all connections around fly back ( check for open pico fuse).
if still problem, replace convergence board.

DO you have convergence in the customer setup menu? if you do not then check out the article fl231 problem in the tips and tricks section

TV Changes Channels on its own

On the front panel board power/ch-/ch+ vol-/vol+ replace contact switches replace all of them.For some odd reasons these contact switches just keep going out they had alot of them bad.

ALL of you have a problem in power supply/deflection board 3 capacitors open located cp150 2200uf 16volt and two 220uf 35 volt, check them first then resolder around FBT other wise order new deflection board 125.00
