Spell check in Outlook Express stopped working. I have repaired Win XP pro from the original disc and reinstalled SP3 and all updates. I repaired MS Office 2010 because spell check won't work without MS office installed. I have uninstalled IE6 and installed IE8 with all updates but still no spell check in outlook express. I have deleted csapi3T and reinstalled it from the disc but still no spell check for my emails. When I open OE, click tools, options there is no Spelling tab on the Options box. Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Graham Taylor Aug 27, 2010

I've tried this method about 3 times now and the spell tab does not appear when I launch OS and navigate to Tool/options. All the other tabs are there except the spelling tab even after reboot.
    Any more suggestions please

  • Graham Taylor Aug 27, 2010

Thanks. I'll give that a try

Here try these steps. Broken SpellChecker in XP Outlook Express

  • Open your Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof
  • Delete the CSAPI3T1.DLL file if it is present. If it's missing just proceed to the next step.
  • Insert the Windows XP CD and close the window that opens if AutoRun is enabled.
  • Click Start | Run and in the Open: box type msconfig and click OK (See Fig. 01)
Spell check in Outlook Express stopped working. I - oe%20spell%2001.gif
Fig. 01
  • Click the Expand File... button to open the Expand One File from Installation Source window. (See Fig. 02)

  • Make the following entries in the Expand One File from Installation Source window.
  • File to Restore: Enter CSAPI3T1.DLL
[Note: This entry must be hand typed rather than using the Browse File... button]
  • Restore From: Enter G:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ (Change the G in G:\ to the letter of your CD Drive)
[Note: This entry must be hand typed rather than using the Browse From... button]
  • Save File In: Enter C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof
[Note: This entry can be made by using the Browse To... button]
  • Click the Expand button. There will be no outward indication that the procedure was successful. The Expand One File from Installation Source window will close and you'll be returned to the System Configuration Utility window. Click OK to close System Configuration Utility.
If you prefer not to expand the file from your own XP CD or can't get the procedure to work properly;
Download Expanded CSAPI3T1.DLL File
directly into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof
  • Open Windows Explorer and again navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof
  • Find the file that was expanded, CSAPI3T1.DL_ , and rename it to CSAPI3T1.DLL
  • Launch Outlook Express and navigate to Tools | Options | Spelling tab. Ensure there is a checkmark next to the Always Check Spelling Before Sending option.
  • Reboot the system and check OE for proper spell checking functions.

I dont know what you think of the software, but because you have purchased the office 2010 suite, Microsoft outlook will be part of that package. Outlook will be preset with the spellchecker and lots of other integration features, I really do recommend trying Microsoft Outlook. run the import wizard from the file menu and it will import all of your "outlook express" settings. Way Way Way better solution for you . I look forward to your comments, sorry i didnt think of this earlier

The other thing that comes to mind over my comment below , is the likelihood that you have a trial version of office that has expired, that would also be a cause of the phantom spell checker.

After upgrading to Office 2010, my Outlook Express spell check didn't function.
I found the above instructions in two separate places, but I simplified them, not expanding anything, just coping the csapI3T1.dll file from where I found it on my old Office 2000 disk to the new directory.

By opening up two Windows Explorer windows, I simply dragged the csapI3T1.dll file from the old Office 2000 location into both (a) C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof directory,

Outlook express does not have a spell check feature. You could try a different mail client such as Mozilla Thunderbird:

http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Or if you prefer to stick with Outlook Express, you could try an add-on spell checker such as TinySpell:

Yes you can do that. Everything will be intact after you install it, so don`t worry. The emails are store on the server not on your computer, so they`re safe too.

If you do a new, clean install of XP in 2018, one would be missing hundreds of updates from Microsoft that would be very hard if not impossible to get. Some of those updates might apply to software that you want to use in conjunction with Windows XP. And if it is an older PC, you might not be able to find driver support for the particular make/model, and XP might not have the drivers you need. How many times have you heard someone say, "I just reinstalled XP, but now I am missing drivers?"

This could be part of your trouble, because even if your XP updated all the way up to April 2014, you could still be missing HP updates provided by HP/Microsoft through Windows Update.

Since Microsoft has not supported XP since April 2014, I would recommend not using it anymore in 2018.

Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

Well if you have it installed on the computer and cant get past the Windows logo. Put the SP3 disk in and do a repair. Make sure you hit -R and not the repair button after clicking continue. Well the directions for a repair will be on the screen. That is my thoughts on what you should do. If you have already done this, then I'm not sure where you should head to next. Hope this helps!!

Spell check windows xp home edition

The spell checker usually comes fro Microsoft Office. If you do not have Office or you have Office 2007 you can download Spell Checker For OE 2.1 from the Microsoft site. My guess is you found the spellcecker in Outlook Express is in French. Spell Checker For OE 2.1 is not a Microsoft product but it works well for outlook Express and is free.

Outlook Express spell check

Outlook express does not have its own spell checker, it relies on the one installed with MS Office. Unfortunately the one that comes with Office 2007 is no longer compatible with Outlook. At present there is no solution except to install third party spell ckeck software.
