I have a HP pavilion m7480 that Im having problems with. It started with it not booting, just having a black screen. I took out the ram, blew it off, reinserted it and it booted up, windows started, but then it would just shut off. I have formated the hard drive and tried to reinstall windows but I allways come to the same place, the partition screen and all it says 4 times is UNKNOWN DISK. If I hit enter it says a fatal error has ocurred and windows has stoped and some other stuff. Ive changed the ram out with new ram, new hard drive, so what am I not doing here that needs to be done? Can someone please help with details!!!!!! Thanks Rob

I looks like you are working with the wrong part the problem here seems to be the hard drive and not the ram.
i believe the hard drive is damaged and needs replacement if you can move the hdd and connect it to another computer as slave would see it it is working or not

It doesn't start at all. Can you see something on screen ? Have you tried to remove the battery and charger and press power buton for 30 seconds ? And put back the battery ? Try also to check RAM Memory

You can try restarting the computer, As it starts pressf8 continusly, this should open the start up menu, and configuration console. From there you set up your start up order and f9 saves and restarts.

Motherboard is defective & needs to be replaced with a new one.
You can find a replacement motherboard by searching on e-bay.com with the motherboard's model number. This could be found under the RAM.

Sounds like you have a memory problem. Either a RAM module is defective & needs to be replaced, or the slot where the RAM module goes into is not making good contact between the motherboard & the memory module, & needs to be cleaned.

Try first cleaning the RAM module slot with a non-oily contact cleaner. Leave it to dry for few minutes then install the RAM module & test if the computer will turn on. If it does not, replace the RAM module with a working one & test again.

OK, depending on the bois version you have, the problem is either your ram modules, or your video card.

I will suggest that you start by taking out the ram module and see if the beeping persists.

If not, you will need to buy new ram.

3 beeps then black screen after boot

Depending upon the BIOS manufacturer, 3 beeps usually mean you have RAM problems, the RAM may need reseating to get proper electrical contact or the RAM may be faulty. Reseat the RAM module/s then reboot the computer. If this didn't solve the problem, remove the RAM and insert it into another computer to test the RAM, if this is not possible, take it to your friendly computer shop and get them to test it for you.
