Hi, the problem is that your system wasn't designed for Windows 7. You could try the Packard Bell website and down load the latest driver, even its not for Windows 7. Or try the Realtrek AC'97 sound driver, its free to down load from a google search. Your other potenial problem is that you will need minimum of 2Gig of memory to run Windows 7.

Toshiba a25-s2792 No sound in windows 7

Yes,....good Ol' Windows updates. Known to knock a system partially out of commission.

Windows has lost the address to the Audio drivers. The reason it states Audio is working properly, is because Windows is full of it.

The Toshiba Satellite A25 series of Notebook PC's, did not come with Windows 7. It came with Windows XP. You, or someone else installed Windows 7.

The updates knocked the audio driver address file to the curb.
All you have to do, is install the Win7 installation disk again, and perform a Repair.
(Non-Destructive Installation)

OR, use the Restoration Disk, (Backup disk)

Toshiba eSupport does not provide audio drivers for Win Vista, or Win 7, for this model. Only Win XP,

{Do I think going to Device Manager, and rolling back the audio driver, or upgrading it, will help? NO }

How do I solve the problem of corrupt or missing drivers

for which Operating System? 98se and millenium edition are obsolete. win xp pro and above are still good.
what device are you having problems with? usb? sound card? video card? or other device? or is it just missing some DLL files from the operating system?
there is also another issue with win xp pro and srv pak 3 it forces the only "signed drivers only" to be installed!! therefore if you have srv pack 3 installed then you will need to to the computer to install any ways. windows 7 will not install "un-signed device drivers" this makes most your devices incompatible with win 7!!
there is another with windows systems up-grades that do not include any kind of driver support except for basic motherboard devices and limited sound cards and video cards and usb port support.
you may want to check your computer maker for any device drivers for the last 3 years only and if it was a device that came with your computer.

If you can't find the driver for Win 7 try using the Vista driver from the Toshiba download page. You can also see what xp identifies the driver as and see if you can find the win 7 driver for that audio device direct from manufacturer.
