Question about Emerson EWR20V4 DVD Recorder/VCR

I HAVE A EWR20V4 EMERSON DVD RECORDER. I HAVE BEEN USING MAXELL DVD-RW W/LOGO SHOWN IN MANUAL120 MIN | UP TO/MAX 2X. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THESE STILL ARE RECORDABLE AS SOME ARE NOT YET FULL. I COULD NOT PURCHASE THIS BRAND AT THE STORE WHERE I SHOP SO PUCHASED A TDK BRAND DVD-RW 1-4X 4.7 GB/GO. I GET A ERROR MESSAGE (DISC ERROR) PLEASE EJECT DISC, PLAYBACK FEATURE MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE ON THIS DISC. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?. IS THIS MACHINE SENSITIVE TO DIFFERENT BTANDS OF DISC'S?.

Yes all the DVD recorders are very sensitive to what brand is fed to them......go back to your ole faithful Maxell here are 3 sites you can try......J & R music, Amazon.com or Ebay

note if you updated (firmware) your player you may need to purchase the dvd w/ 4x-16 speed..

I can't get the DVD out of the player

Need a firmware upgrade. Emerson will charge you for it. Otherwise you need to find Dvds it will accept. Hard to do with all of the newer dvds. -RW only 1Xor 2X. -R 1X-2X. Memorex would not work for me. Multi- speed dvds over listed speeds will not work. Maxell -R 1X-4X worked for me. Good luck finding any.

Only uses 2x dvd media, why?

I think that was the current burning speed at the time this unit came out, but you can call the Emerson 800 number & get a firmware upgrade disc ($23 w. S&H, I think) that will allow you to record the "more modern" DVD's. I haven't tried it, as I'm happy with (most of) my huge collection of Maxell's & recently found Fuji -R's & -RW's to work just fine.

What type of dvd do i use to record on?

Simple any blank dvd medium is fine. Depends on size of file you want on dvd either 4.7 G or a double layer. Also either + or - are fined, depends on your machine.

Anyone know where I could get a free download for a Emerson Dvd/vcr combo firmware upgrade??? (Ewr20v4) I need it right away . Emerson will charge to mail me one.

Sylvania dvr90vf dvd recorder

Unfortunately without a firmware upgrade the only disks you can use are DVD-R or DVD-RW. The tricky part is that you can ONLY USE 2X speed. Per my conversation with Sylvania there is a firmware update that will allow you to use up to 8x disks, but they are charging $17.00 for it.

Call the support line. See if your SERIAL number qualifies for a FIRMWARE UPGRADE.

No playback

The dvd player does not recognize discs above 2x. I contacted Emerson, they have a software upgrade they will send you for free, but you have to ask for it. I think it gives the player the ability to read up to 8x.

The problem is likely that you are using 8x/2x media. Though the booklet does not say it, the burner does not support anything above 4x for DVD-R and 1x for DVD-RW. Calling their tech support can (possibly) get an update for this problem. Otherwise, the burner cannot use anything but outdated media.
