Convergence issue with blue

My convergence is messed up on the blue color,  I can manually set the red and green but not blue. When you use the link below my blue looks exactly bowed in like the blue lines in the picture doing the convergance. Bought a relacment Convergence out PWB (ssb-5068a-m2) from a JVC service center and it didnt change a thing. What else could cause the blue to be bowed at top and bottom like that? When i try to manually converge it i can move all red and green both sideways and up and down, however the blue only lets me move it left and right i can not move it up and down at all. And it's off pretty far in the center top and bottom but close to aligned at the edges. Any ideas?

The Chips your refering to (stk392-110) are on the board that i replaced, I had seen on this forum about those chips and decided to just buy the board that has both those chips on it.  So either my replacemnt board was bad or something else is wrong with it.

  • ak_vader May 07, 2008

I have looked all over this board and have found no sort of button.  I can access the grid looking convergance screen with the remote though so not sure this tv has a button on the board i replaced,  I have looked at both the new and old board and found none.

Did you push the button located on the new board before adjusting the convergence? The board with the STK392-110 on is the convergence power supply .That button has to be pressed then it will bring up the multipoint screen to adjust.

My blue and green coloring is messed up on my Mitsubishi Medallion. I can't get it to have both colors normally, it has to almost be one or the other. Is this just a contrast issue, or something

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. The power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

What you will need to do is convergence. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement parts, step by step instructions, support, etc.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

The color is messed up. the color is all different colors like red, green and blue.

Your convergence is out of whack.

This can be caused by a failed convergence IC - or can be adjusted using the Convergence settings in the main menu.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash2_bing.gif focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Red,Blue,Green Image

YOu have convergence issues. Ok first question. IN your setup menu do you have the convergence option/ if you DO not then it can be a specail fusable link. fl231 if you do. next question do the picture bow in at the middle. if you do then it possibly a convergence power supply issue. next if you go into setup convergence does the crosshairs adjust up or down left to right on both blue and red. I if so then theres is a chance that it can be a convergence adjusment or a amplifer problem AS always THIS SET CAN GENERATE LEATHAL 380 VOLTS EVEN WITH SET UPLUGED SO BE CAREFULL.
