My computer won't let me charge my unit...The first time was fine, now it won't even turn on... The phillips comes on but then goes off when i let go of the on /off button....The little sun doesn't show up and it is plugged into my computer and I see the charge going, but my computer says it can't install gogear....The unit is not that old.....also there is a foreign language under the picture of the charge action...

MF. Could be the new charger is faulty, return charger for exchange or refund. Battery could also be faulty, have it tested if you can by a computer tech. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

have the battery full charge? sometime the battery is not charged although the charging indicator is full charge, maybe the battery is shorted out.

You can turn off the Mp4 for a while and re-install the system ,and then you can change if the port is fit the computer ,you can also used a transfer interface to connected the computer .

The battery in these units lasts about 3 years. If your unit is new, be sure the unit is ON (indicated by orange light in front) while being charged. Also, be sure to turn it OFF when not in use or the battery will be depleted (even if not used).
The good news is that the battery is easily replaceable. Removed the 4 phillips head screws from the bottom of the unit. With a little persuasion the bottom will come off, and expose the battery. Pull the battery out until the terminals are exposed and remove the wires attached to them. You can use needle nose pliers to assist if they don't come off easily.
Purchase a replacement battery online or at your nearest batteries plus store, install and continue to enjoy your boombucket.
The battery is 12V 3.3AH/20HR Lead acid type.

Have you tried pressing and holding the power button for about 8 to 10 seconds? It should go on then off. Then wait a few seconds the turn it on normally. This usually resets the unit.
If this does not work try a hard reset.
Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.
Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears.
Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.
If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite data.
Once it gets going update your gps at the Garmin site.

Because of e-ink screen technology the reader will display last page even if the unit is not charges it may display "full". Try this:

1. Connect the reader to the PC and check if a redlight comes up
2. If there is no light, hit the reset at the bottom for 3 seconds, the light should come on now.
3. Leave the unit charging for about 15-30 minutes
4. Unplug the unit and see if its operational now, if not you can try the reset again and the slide the power switch

Sounds like the internal battery won't hold a charge and needs to be replaced. If you're "handy" you could do this yourself, but it's not for the faint of heart, and replacement batteries are available on the Internet. I has the same problem with a streetpilot 540.. It wouldn't turn on, even once charged. There was no reset button under the serial number. However, prise off the grey plastic square plate on the front panel which goes around the screen. ( there's even a little space for your fingernail under the Garmin logo). The reset button is under that plate. Press that with a screwdriver then turn on. My unit turned on once reset.

Does it say Philips and then go dark? If so, try pushing the reset button. Mine did this yesterday, because I did a complete erase. I had to push the reset a couple of times, then it started working again. I'm back in business, and listening to my songs as I type this.

Is your battery charged fully? Did you let it charge via your computer?
