Mike, I read your comment about remotes that you posted on July 10, 2007. You stated: "I have been seeing a lot of Toshiba remote "eyes" (the infra-red
receiver inside the TV) fail recently. If several known good remotes
cannot control the TV then the IR receiver will have to be replaced. If
you have no experience soldering and unsoldering PC boards then have a qualified tech handle it for you."
I have the same problem with a Toshiba 32AF43 tube tv, and I believe the IR receiver is bad. I can solder a bit, but I do not know how to open the TV case to access the IR. Can you point me to a web site that explains this, or can you easily explain how to access the IR receiver? Thank you in advance. Richard.
The IR reciever should be in the front of the set where the remote IR window is located.
I can tell you that there is a lot more that can go wrong than just the IR reciever. There may be a buffer amp along the way to the uPC, or there may be a fault with the uPC itself. The fault may also be a cold solder connection, or a missing supply voltage to the the IR reciever or to some of the components involved in the IR signal process.
In opening and working on your set, there are serious safety issues involved. You should be giving the set out to a trained and experienced TV tech for proper and reliable service.

Hi christinehacmy name is Mike Houston of DISH Network and I was reading over your post andthe remote has lost the code for your TV. There is a step called Power Scan forthe DISH Network remote, I will send a link that will help with these steps. http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/power-scan-instructions
Hi aajwknightmy name is Mike Houston of DISH Network after reading your post there are somethings that can be done to fix the remote. The first thing you will want to dois take the TV2 remote to TV1 and on the TV1 remote press the MENU button twotimes and it will take you to the System Info screen. At the bottom of thescreen you will see the Secondary Remote Address and a number in the white boxto the right, and with the TV2 remote press and release the SAT button andpress the record button one time.
check out if the infrared is emited from your remote control, if it is NOT, then there could be problem with your infrared receiver embedded in the tv set.
to see this infrared beam, you need to read the article posted at http://www.unique-stuff.co.cc/fixing_remote_control_check_infrared.html
