Something might have changed. Just check what is your default E-mail application and do reconfigure it or run a repair command (for Outlook for example). Reboot to make sure that the changes are applied.and, if need be, reinstall the Control Center again.
Open the scan to E-mail configuration and select the application that handles the E-mails.
If that does not work there is a workaround: Scan to pdf then send the pdf file as attachment. From your E-mail account you may also be able to insert a file acquired from the scanner.

You have a virus,worm, trojan,etc on your computer causing it to send out unsolicited emails.
Go the the following site and download,install and run the FREE Microsoft Safety Scanner.
It will remove the virus,worm,trojan from your computer.
If it doesn't remove it completely a popup window will open and allow you to hook to a Microsoft professional (For FREE) and he will take over your computer (with your permission) and finish removing the problem from your computer.

The scan to e-mail uses your default mail product. As of June 2008, Outlook Express can not check a Hotmail account. If you have XP, Vista or Win7, you can download and install Windows Live Mail and use that instead. Since Hotmail is a Microsoft product, Live Mail should set up the account without a problem (both the incoming server and the out-going server); all you'll need to add is your full email address ([email protected]) and password. Make your Hotmail account the default and Live Mail the default e-mail program and you should be good to go for sending e-mail via Hotmail.

If you want to continue with Outlook Express, there is no solution.

(Live Mail will ask if you want it to be the default program when you first launch it after installing (in my experience all mail programs do this). If you relaunch Outlook Express, it will ask the same question and you will need to reset the default program for mail. This can be done either as each program asks or through the Control Panel, Programs, Default Programs)

Have you considered simply scanning from within Adobe Acrobat or similar software that produces .pdf and then use the email feature within Acrobat?

As I look over the HP User Manual, I can't see any method to set the default output. It simply says...

Use the E-MAIL button() to scan documents or pictures and insert them in an e-mail message as an attachment. You must have an Internet connection and a supported e-mail application.
1. Place the original face down on the scanner glass or face up in the ADF. If you are scanning two-sided originals from an ADF, slide the DUPLEX switch to two-sided mode.
2.Press the E-MAIL button().A message appears asking if the original is a document or a picture.
3.Select Document or Picture, and click OK.Note:A preview image will not appear when scanning from the ADF. To change this preview setting, see the HP Photo & Imaging software Help.
4. Select the final scan area (the area inside the dotted lines) in the preview image.
5. Make adjustments to the preview image if needed.
6. Click Accept.The final scan area is scanned and your e-mail application is opened. The scanned image is added as an attachment to the e-mail message.
7. The Save As dialog box appears. Type a file name and choose a file type, and click OK.
8. Complete the e-mail as usual.

Gmail is an e-mail service, not a client (program used to access e-mail). In order to make thie work with gmail, you would need to install a different e-mail client that supports gmail, such as IncrediMail.

Start Outlook Express, click on the "tools" heading at the top of the screen, click on "options" in the drop down pane, select the "general" tab, at the bottom of the pane select "make default" this will make the default mail handler Outlook Express, no need to uninstall the other one.

If you have a Kyocera copier with the scanner fitted you need to get the IP address of the scanner. To do this you have to go to the copier, go into "system menu/counter" , select the scanner default, scroll down to tcpip, get the IP address. Once you know the IP, type it into the address bar on your browser. A Command Centre page should come up. Follow the prompts and you should get to where you need to be.

Click the Show Menu button, and choose Options; if you see the traditional menus, go to Tools > Options. Both open the Options dialog: under the General tab, which should be selected by default, locate the bottom section, labeled "Default Messaging Program":

If Windows Live Mail is not currently the default email program on Windows, the text next to the first button will read "This application is NOT the default Mail handler". Click the Make Default button, and it will be disabled (grayed out).

Confirming your change of default email clientThe text has now changed to "This application is the default Mail handler".This is a bit misleading, because Windows Live Mail will not becomeyour default email application until you actually have clicked the Ok or Apply button to confirm the change in configuration.
Soclick Ok (no need to Apply first), and Windows Live Mail's optiondialog will close, integrating your new option choices. It is that easyto make Windows Live Mail your default email program. (If Windows LiveMail was already your default email client, nothing will happen.)

you need to install a new account on your outlook or windows mail, turn it to default account, make outlook your default mail client and voila. everytime a program needs to initiate an e-mail message it will use microsoft outlook which is using g-mail as the default address

in the software settings or preferences you should be able to make it the default and if you have another scanner you will have to make sure it is not the default sscanner in its software settings
