If it's not producing heat, then it's not working well.
If this is a gas dryer, you probably need a new ignitor.
Call a repairman who you can trust.

If your dryer is clogged up this will not produce heat inside the dryer but will produce heat to the vent tube. Try unclogging the Vent tube and see what happens.

Need to change the heater filament. The heater filament has several portions to produce heat. As it ages, some portions are not producing heat anymore hence the total heat produced by an old filament can not put out as much as originally designed.

most likely the heating element is toast, remove and replace, inexpensive, second could be heat thermostat but unlikely

Make sure your vent screen is clear of lint, You should also check the actual vent duct which comes out the back of the dryer. It sounds like there is blockage of dust and lint which is not allowing the dryer to properly heat up.
