I have a Maytag Dependable Care Plus/Heavy Duty, Electronic Dry Control Electric Dryer. It is making a loud squealing thumping noise. I wondered if you might be able to tell me what the problem is and if I would be able to fix it myself, how would I go about this. Thank you

I have a Maytag Dependable Care Electric Dryer, Model LDE9806ACE.

The tumbler sqeaks / squeals when you first turn it on. The noise goes away gradually.

I would like to repair it but I am looking for an opinion before getting to involved.

I also have the same problem. After looked thru several DYI repair books, I'm still not able to open the top panel as instructed by all 3 books. It seems that MayTab has diff structure.

Same model. The dryer goes on with a huge thumping. It started out as something that went away but doesn't anymore. Thinking of replacing the thing, it is probably somewhere between 10-15 years old.

I have the same problem. The solution is to replace the bearing(s) that support the dryer drum - you have to take off the front cover (remove two screws at the bottom and then pull down to disattatch the two clips at the top. Then remove the few wires that go to various switches (mark them first so you know where they go when you put them back). Then remove 4 screws holding in the drum brackets. (2 on each side that screw into the side panels). Then remove the drum to get access to the support bearings - you have to remove the rubber drive band first to remove the drum. Then find which bearing is broken and replace (the easiest thing of the entire process). I suggest replacing both bearings at the same time - the cost isn't much, but the hassle of going back a second time isn't worth it (I found out the hard way). Should give you another ~10+ years of trouble free life...

I have a Maytag Dependable Care Heavy Duty dryer and it makes an awful noise when it runs, also it isn't heating what should I do?

the knocking is either a belt that is going or one of the wheels is broken(they ride on three or four wheels). and those fixes are fairly inexpensive. but if it is also not heating, that can be inexpensive or not. maybe a new one, or fairly new via craigslist. how old is your dryer. over 10-12 years, maybe replace this one

I have a Maytag Dependable Care Quiet Plus II Heavy Duty dryer. The vent fan is loose on the shaft. What needs to be done to fix it?

Must replace it cause there is a flat side on the shaft and the blower wheel matches up to it and rounded out the plastic. Take off front panel and take out the screws around the wheel to get the metal plate out of the way then it either screws on or has a snap ring and a clamp to take off now wiggle the wheel to slide it off. Install new wheel and put back together.

Thumping/Screeching sound, MD:LDE8616ACE. Rollers? Idler Pulley?

Your description sounds like one or both of the rear drum supports (rollers) is bad. A quiet thumping is almost always present as the weld in the drum comes in contact with the drum supports. A binding support will squeal, and the thumping could be worse at that time. After running the dryer until the noises are present, once disassembled, you can tell if a support is bunding or rolling normally by spinning it by hand. The same goes for the idler pulley. Make sure power is disconnected from the unit befor attempting any repairs.

While the unit is disassembled for repair, make sure your your old cat is not inside.

Loud thumping noise

IT COULD BE THE DRUM BUT I WOULD INSPECT THE DRUM ROLLERS TO SEE IF ONE HAS A FLAT SPOT IN IT. IT MIGHT NOT HURT TO CHECK THE DRUM BAFFLES/PADDLES TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT.
