My fridge keeps freezing everything even on the lowest setting - does it need a new thermostat?

Check to make sure fridge thermostat is not covered or iced over

there is a motor with a flapper that opens and closes to keep your temp correct in the refrigerator side most likely the motor is bad and stuck open so your air from the freezer has constant flow to the refr side. the flapper is in the back of the refr behind a cover where the air flows in.

My mini-fridge did a similar thing, until I realized that managed to put on the wrong temperature knob. It was technically backwards. They may have done this to you. I mean, it is a longshot, but try putting it on the highest setting to see if that helps. If it does not, you're most likely dealing with a faulty knob that's not actually changing the settings on the thermostat.

There is a thermostat inside the casing telling the fridge to keep cooling - forever.
Replace it

Hi, this problem is going to be with the running thermostat (cold Control). It has gone bad and stays open which in turn will keep the compressor running continually and will cause the fridge to get colder and freeze food. It can normally be located in the control panel inside the fridge (it is the control that has wires, the other is the damper). Locate the thermostat and replace it. Then replace the thermostat. It's cheaper that wasting all that beer. Seriously I think your thermostat is broken and stuck on coldest setting. Sea Breeze

your thermostat is bad, what it does it sense the temperature set buy the control setting, once it goes bad it does not recognize the temperature hot or coold and the unit keep running and freezes everything. thermostat work like the therometer switch, when it reach certain temperature it cut off.

there is a way to adjust it but its very difficult..best to just replace it. the thermostat that is.

This refrigerator only has one thermostat located in the fresh food compartment it is designed to activate the sealed system (cooling) until it reaches approximately 37 deg f in the fresh food compartment. The damper controls how fast the cold air can move from the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment. Allowing you to control the temp in the freezer by controlling the flow of cold air to the thermostat.

#1 your thermostat is no longer opening when it achieves set temp. fix = replace thermostat pn 61005798 $35
#2 your damper arm or assemblie has broken. Fix = Replace damper or broken arm and actuator.
