Hi all,

I tried numerous solutions for this issue and none of them worked except this one. I tested it with Vista Ultimate and don’t know if other Vista versions have the same drivers but here’s what worked for me:

1. Right click ‘Computer’ then left click ‘Properties’ to open up System window.
2. Click ‘Device Manager’
3. Click ‘+’ on ‘Display Adapters’ and you should see the drivers for your video. Right click and select ‘Update Driver Software...’
4. Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’ and click ‘next’.
5. Click ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’
6. Untick ‘Show compatible hardware’
7. Select ‘Intel Corporation’ then select ‘Intel 82865G’. Click next.

This will install the drivers. No they are not the same drivers for the hardware but they work a treat!

Hi

I am afraid Dell has not released certified Windows Vista drivers for OptiPlex GX620 though it was marketed as "Vista Capable".

OptiPlex GX620 uses Intel 945 chipset and integrated Intel Graphic Media Accelerator 950. Windows Vista have built in base drivers these devices. Running windows update will install latest MS drivers for the chipset and integrated Video.

Anyway, Windows XP drivers (Dell Released) works fine in Vista. I have added Audio Drivers as Vista does not have these. Some GX620 ship with ATI X1300 or Radeon x600

Intel 945G Graphics Controller - Intel 945G Graphics Controller
Intel chipset Software Installation Utility - http://ftp.us.dell.com/chipset/R132539.EXE
Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio - http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R97809.EXE
ATI X1300/X1300 Pro - http://ftp.us.dell.com/video/ATI_X1300-Pro_A03_R162009.exe
ATI 256MB Radeon X600/Radeon X600 SE - http://ftp.us.dell.com/video/R135061.EXE

Thanks for bringing my attention to GX260 and not GX620. I apologies for taking you on a wide tangent.

Anyway, Windows Vista and Vista updates would have all the drivers.

The onborad Intel 82845G Graphics Controller isn't great though. It tends to fade/blur out.

Please reply if you have further problems and i will respond at best effort.

    Mike

Had the same problem with no suitable Intel 82845G vista graphics driver for the dell optiplex gx260, so  as suggested on another site I tried the 82865G drivers available in all copies of vista and it works just fine!
(untick "show compatible drivers" when upgrading the graphics driver from device manager and choose the intel 82865G driver)

Simple! I bought a gx260 off eBay ($75AU) and did a fresh install of XP. Then installed software for my TV card. Being "clever" I upgraded to Vista (after putting in a different drive), had problems, installed Ubuntu, had problems. Put the original drive back in (after 2 days of being "clever"), all fixed!

Simple solution = DON'T update an old Dell box running a Pentium 4, 512 Mb RAM and Intel graphics.
Box is now running fine as a web browser and free to air Digital TV recorder.

PS Throughout the history of computing people have tried to update old hardware and found similar problems. You are not alone!

I had the same problem with an Optiplex GX620. I had just about given up hope to get this resolved. On my last google search I saw an ad for DriverMagic. I installed it and ran it in demo mode. It installed the Realtek AC'97 Audio driver and it's working for me. I'm doing more testing to make sure.

Dont know the rules here but .... if you can get ahold of tiny vista ultimate it has all the updated drivers for virtually any machine..i bought 30 vista ultimate serials and mass installed the borderline illegal (unless you do it like i did) vista on all the machines ... in fact not only does it preform 10X better i have areo glass with the onboard intel grafix card....then had to change the keys in all the copies it saved me about 2 days but not only that ...all the optiplex drivers work even with areo glass.... google tiny vista unattended ..download it and change the key to a legal one...or search to find out how to make your won copy

Video and NIC XP drivers for dell optiplex gx260 will work with Vista but they have to manually installed. After installing vista, use device manager to update driver and browse to the location where the XP drivers are stored. I tried to manually install the driver for onboard audio. It seemed to work and is being shown in device manager as being correctly installed and working but I have no audio; perhaps there are other issues I have to resolve.

I upgraded optiplex GX260 with Windows Vista. I lost video resolution on the monitor. Can you email me the link for the driver? Thanks, paa

Vista has a cutoff date on desktop computers for supporting drivers for video.
Your options are to go back to XP, or see if your computer has a spare
PCI slot, if so then buy a PCI VGA board that is Vista supported.
When you open your case and install the board, bootup and Vista
will detect the new VGA board and install the required drivers.

I want to upgrade my dell gx 260 to the new windows 7 os .idid aupgrade advisor report online. it said i needed to upgrade my graphics adapter and ram memory.

Hello!

If you want my advise, don´t do that. I see how like windows 7, and I can say that is windows xp sp3, very fast and flexible, and safe, and don´t need so much. Windows 7 looks like windows vista, and I thik that have stil more trouble.

You'll need to have at least the following specs to run vista comfortable; 1 or 2 Ghz processor 1 or 2 GB RAM Video : AGP with 256mb or more cache Yoy might also have to consider changing your power supply.

Blurred pictures on monitor

The problem is not the monitor, it is the display adapter (Video card) of your system needs a valid Vista driver. (NVidia, ATI and Intel are the 3 largest Graphic card manufacturers) Monitor drivers are almost never needed except on some advanced large LCDs.

You said up upgraded to Vista, did you use a Vista upgrade DVD or just perform a clean installation of Vista? Have you installed Vista Chipset drivers? The chipset and Graphics drivres may not be native to Vista, you may need to install them.

Install Vista on Dell optiplex gx 260

The big problem you will ever face with Windows Vista using optiplex gx260 is the screen resolution...This is a great hurdle in the upgradation of Windows...You're also to keep in mind that there are some softwares which are not compatable with Vista like folder lock etc...So I'd suggest not to shift to Vista...XP is still the best option...allowing multiple tasks to perform securely, faster and without any compatability issue...Enjoy using Windows XP...
