I came across this issue today. For xlsx files, they are actually a group of files compressed in Zip file format. Therefore, sometimes, if the corruption is only caused by the Zip file, then you can use Zip repair tools such as WinRAR to repair the file, as follows:

1. Assuming the corrupt Excel file is a.xlsx, then you need to rename it to a.zip
2. Start WinRAR, go to "Tools > Repair Archive" to repair a.zip and generated a fixed file a_fixed.zip.
3. Rename a_fixed.zip back to a_fixed.xlsx
4. Using Excel to open a_fixed.xlsx.

Hi your MS Office might be out of date, mostly all Acer units come a trial version of MS Office. Basically you need to buy a full version of the MS Office....

just reinstall the application if it is original software or when it is pirated just download another one by torrents or any other method
first of all backup your excel type files

Generally  this error occurs because you have deleted your word.exe & excel.exe files to confirm of deletion of these application file you can check by following pathway.  If they are not there means you should restore deleted file from Recycle Bin.

If the file are not available in Recycle Bin then you should reinstall M.S. Office Application.
Or

You can restore your system to an earlier date when it was working prpoperly.

when u are going to open ms word please insert the msoffice cd in cd rom.
then open ms word etc., that will take some files from cd.

From Excel, try clicking on the 'down' arrow in the 'Open' button, then select, "Open and Repair," then select the file.

go to start then all programs then microsoft office look for excel click on it from there ok see if it works if not reinstall program and update it ok
