Hi. I have an s2 pro fuji camera. bought a new 4gig x133 CF card. inserted - camera says "card not initialized" computer does recognize the card. formatted it on my pc, still the same problem.
Can it be that the card's too modern for the camera? what else can it be? the camera does recognize my old 512mb x80 card. please help.
Thank you.
Re: Hi. I have an s2 pro fuji camera. bought a new 4gig...
I was able to format a SanDisk 4GB card in another brand point and shoot
digital camera and then use it successfully in the Fuji S2. I haven't tried anything of a larger capacity.

Sounds like you pulled the card out while it was still uploading images to the computer, corrupting the card. So...a.- to try to recover the photos, you'll need photo recovery software,
like digital photo rescue or others available via an internet search and... b.- you'll need to put the card into the reader after you're done and
reformat in FAT (not FAT32, not NTFS) so the card will be readable
again in the S2pro.
What would happen is this: people would attach the card to the computer
and delete using the computer. This can create a recycle bin on the
drive. The next thing is that the card might be "unmounted," in that
many people will just pull the memory card out of the reader and stick
it into the camera without first unmounting the card.
This leave the card in an "open" state which the S2 Pro cannot properly read. The solutions: 1.- make sure there's no recycle bin on the card;
2.- plug it into your computer, and then properly unmount the drive using
the taskbar, then pull the card out of the reader after you've been
told it's safe to remove the card.
Since you describe a power issue as a possible initial cause, your final
option is a new memory card. Also, only format in FAT format, since
that's what the S2 Pro can see; not FAT32. You might also try
formatting in another camera and then the S2 Pro.
There are several things that may cause this. If the previous pictures were downloaded to a computer it will require being formatted in the camera. The memory card is full and can not write any more pictures to the memory card. You may have just purchase a new memory card and it needs formatting before using in your camera. You may have purchase a new memory card that is a higher capacity then what your camera firmware is capable of writing too.
For example my S2 Pro worked great with a 1gig card but on a few shoots I needed to change memory cards so I purchase an 8gig and it didn't work. What I needed to do was go onto the Fuji site and download an updated version on the camera firmware which allowed me to use a 4gig memory card. I have more then one camera so the 8gig was used in another "newer" camera.
Hope one of these is the solution and you can get back to taking pictures
From administrative tools in the control panel on a pc,you can format a 4 gig card to fat (not fat32) in the disk management window. It works fine in my Fuji s2.
I've bought a SanDisk ExtremeIII 4GB CFI card. Ofcourse, at the beginig nothing worked. Camera format command worked neither (initializing problem,...). I then formated my card through a car reader on fat16 and now everything works. Just make this command: format <volume>: /FS:FAT. After checking and formathing the card, you will be asked to go on by 64K size of cluster. say Yes.
From what i can find the Fuji S2 DSLR can only take up to a 2gb card, so this would explain card error the camera cannot register the space available.
I am getting more problems like this the card manufactures bringing out these large high speed cards, but only the newer cameras can use them, the older ones just show an error.
Similar problem with the computer especially if you have bought one of the new udma cards (305x speed) your computer or card reader might be letting you down. Have you tried formating the card in the computer and then writing a file to it, this will determine if there is a fault with the card.
It could be a faulty memory card. Or maybe dirty contacts on the card itself. Try swapping cards with a friend or your local camera shop and see if it works then. Maked sure the card is correctly inserted too.
If the card formatted in the camera it should be OK. If it was corrupt it would show up during format.
I hope you didn't buy the card off Ebay through an Asian or Chinese dealer. They are conning people with half a gbyte card marked as one gbyte. Some of them are reworked so they show the full Gbyte but when you go to format them they crash when you try to use them.
Anyway it should be under warranty so ask for an exchange or even a different brand.
