Whenever the screen is full and a line with calculation result comes up at the bottom of the screen, the screen all of a sudden shows things in a weird way and can't be read. By press "2nd+mode"(=quit), or try reset button (a small hole which a pin can only be used to press it to RESET. Gud Luck

Hi. I changed the batteries on my TI-86 and when I tried to turn it back on the screen was completely black. Do you know what the issue could be?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If the screen is completely black, go the other way, using the Down-arrow instead of the Up-arrow.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we'll go on from there.

My ti-86 screen is black is that normal. I have not used it in years, but i put fresh batteries

Hello, First of all no; it is not normal for your screen to be black. How can you enjoy the wonderfulness that is Ti with a dark screen. For the solution; it sounds like your contrast needs to be adjusted. Hold 2nd and down. The screen should lighten. If it reaches about where you can not see the cursor, then press 2nd and up and this will darken it. Hope this helps; Happy Calculating
