Nintendo ds hinge was broken so I attempted o change the case. No big problem with case change, but unit will not now power on. red charging light stays on when plugged in, and when i turn on, green light stays on about 3 secs and then goes out. Any help appreciated.
Re: Nintendo ds hinge was broken so I attempted o change...
I just done mine and if everything is not connected properly one of the fuse's blow's.
Their are 2 fuses both situated on the pcb they can be bridged but it is fiddly.

it's likely that the top screen ribbon cable has either become damaged or loose, the entire top screen will probably need replacing (along with the casing if the hinge is broken).. if you are not confident with technical or fiddley things I wouldnt recommend attempting it yourself.
First remove the new case and see what you get - if it all works fine then the case must be pinching a cable or pressing on something it shouldn't.
Check the unit with AC only or battery power only.
The faint click is probably the power switch membrane clicking across - probably indicating that the switch itself is fine - but check at least visually and with a meter if you can.
the most likely causes of the problem if removing the case again does not get it working are;
Loose connector - probably where the screen hinge is, or where those cables connect to -check anything that you could have moved.
Is it an official original case? some cheap copies may be badly fitting, although I found no info on any problem like this so far.
If you have a card inserted, try with a different one or without one. check nothing got in the card slot and no pins are bent - especially if you just put a card back in after replacing the case. Especially could be problem if your DS was set in Auto start-up mode before.
Possibly unconnected to the case change, the power supply or battery could have failed. Check through this link and see if it helps identify if that is the problem. Do you get any power or charging lights?

nintendo do not recommend it, but it may be worth removing and reinstalling the battery in order to reset the unit. proceed with care.
Here is the link to the manual if you need it;

Hope this helps - please post back with more details :)
Yes its fixable but it depends on what has broken. There are two possibilities the small barrel hinge has broken, this is just a case of fitting a new one by opening the case, unscrew the light and gently pulling the top of the case away till you can change the barrel hinge. The other one is the case has broken and is not holding the barrel hinge, can bodge it with some glue sometimes but most often you need a new case.
There web sites where you can get a new case for your DS. When searching try using : nintendo ds lite replacement shell or nintendo ds light case modding
I found this on ebay after a lot of searching forums and other sites, and it worked for me!
"If you are one of the unlucky ones, LIKE me, you may find after taking it apart,and then putting it all back into the new case, that when you power up, bottom screen flashes, and nothing... DONT panic.. I did.. tried looking for help on the web and couldnt find any. It just means you, like me havent pushed one of the Ribbon cables fully in... took me a while to work it out, just unclip the ribbon cable again, and with both fingers gently push it all the way in, you will feel it slide into the socket more than it did before.
