Remove the hard drive and try to turn on the computer. If it turns on (of course it's not going to boot) try to go to the setup screen. If that works then you either have a bad drive or it is not installed properly. Have fun!

OK, If it is not coming up at all then maybe your old hard drive is still ok. Try, removing the battery and turn it on with just the ac adapter plugged in. If it works, then your battery is bad. If it does not come one then try a different ac adapter from Radio Shack, a local PC Shop, or any electronics store. If it still does not work then more than likely it is your dc jack. The dc jack is not that expensive, you can get one online but to replace it you have to take the computer apart and do some soldering. Find out how on Youtube or get a local tech to do it for you. Good Luck and let me know.

My hp compaq Presario V6500 has been damaged and a computer dude in Bathurst NSW said we need a bulb replaced in the screen as it won't light up. Computer functions via TV. R there any local repairers for...

The monitor screen on your laptop is an LCD screen.

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
The additional light source is a Backlight.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

LCD screens are a composite of layers. The layers are held together by a metal frame, much like a picture frame.
The Backlight is usually located on one side, accessed after removing one side of the metal frame.

As stated, a Backlight is a very small type of Fluorescent lamp, (Tube)
Very fragile, easily breakable, and not usually approached by one who has very little, or no experience in replacing.
More common the entire LCD screen is replaced, which includes the Backlight already installed.

A laptop also needs an Inverter to provide power, both for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

90 percent of the time the fault is the Inverter.
I repeat, 90 percent of the time the fault is a bad Inverter.

An Inverter is cheaper than an LCD screen, and MUCH easier to replace than a Backlight.

Allow me to show you replacing an Inverter on an HP Pavilion dv6000 series laptop.
Granted, it isn't an HP Compaq Presario V6500 series, but the principles still apply the same,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-replace-lcd-screen-inverter-hp-pavilion-dv6000-laptop/

I can also provide a free link, to the Service Manual for an HP Compaq Presario V6500 laptop, direct from HP Support,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3369429&

In the list click on;
Compaq Presario V6500, V6600, and V6700 Notebook PCs-Maintenance and Service Guide

This is a PDF file.
Allow up to 30 seconds to see the first page, and an additional time may be needed to fully download.

In the Bookmarks menu on the left click on the + sign next to;
1) Removal and replacement procedures
2) Component and replacement procedures
3) Display assembly

And/or go directly to Page 61 to view the Inverter location.

One example of an Inverter for an HP Compaq Presario V6500,

Granted this is not what you asked for.
My premise is to teach, and hopefully save people money.

2010 Ford fusion I left the parking lights on overnight and find battery dead the next morning. I charged battery overnight, but still could not start engine. When key is turned it displays the battery...

Well contact your dealer and tell them that your battery is gone bad for no reason and don't mention you let the light overnight because your battery is under warranty and they will put in a new one. Good luck

When I try to power on my compaq pesario f700 laptop the light just flashes once and nothing happens I assume its the power supply of the laptop can I replace this myself I am very Tech savy and have...

Remove your battery and try with external power supply again if it boots up all good and proper then after booting to SOE refitt the battery and let it charge - if it doesn't boot or power on look to see if the blue LED it on around your power input point. If there is no illumination around the power input port try another 65w power supply input - your power pack may be dead. Cheap fix - if it still does the same powers on then off - you have reason to go out and buy a new laptop - would be cheaper than replacing the M/board
trust me.

A repairman said the motherboard was shot

Yes all motherboards are replaceable, Your just going to have to find the correct part # you need. The motherboard shouldn't run you more than 100$, although a repair shop will charge upwards of 300-400$ for the time to install.

Ipod 5th gen issues

Tough call on this one as it could be that a motherboard component was fried. Have you tried to do a soft reset on the unit by pressing the menu and center buttons at the same time for 5-7 seconds? Believe it or not, sometimes that resolves the issue.

The other option is to get us your unit for our FREE Diagnostic Testing. We will inspect the unit on our test bench, provide you with a repair estimate as well as a recycle price in which case we would buy your broken iPod from you for recycling.

Rick
