Dish DVR 625. Turned on this morning and it had corrupted hard drive. The unit formatted and reset itself. Now I have no access to the DVR feature. When I press record I get an Error 024 - "Unable to access this feature at this time. Data not available." It won't pause live TV either.

To get that resolved, if it has not been already, try to unplug the receiver from the power source for 10 seconds. If thsi does not work, a new receiver may be needed. Why does my Dish Network DVR-625 DTV receiver sound like it is running all the time

The Dish 625 as with the other Dish DVR systems has a fan built into the back of the unit. The fan runs nearly all the time to keep the internal drive cool. Sometimes the fan sounds louder that normal. what I do from time to time is take my shop vac and or the small vac u you use to clean your computer. and clean the vents around the fan. I do this on my desk top computer also.. Hope this helps.

Hi gehrlichman, my name is Mike Houston of DISH Network andI was going over your post and seen where you were asking about an externalhard drive to get the recordings off your 625 DVR receiver. To do that you willneed to upgrade to our VIP HD series receivers, if you get the HD DVR receiveryou will be able to add an External Hard Drive to get the recordings off. Iwill send a link to tell you all of what's needed.http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/use-ehd

Dvr box wont record

Are you able to access any of your previous recordings?

Try unplugging the receiver for 10-15 seconds and plug back in. The receiver will reboot itself for you and should restore functionality of the DVR. If that doesn't work the hard drive has likely failed and we would need to send a replacement receiver.

Can the progams on a DVR hard drive be saved if the unit is not functioning and has to be replaced? If so, what do I need to do? Please advise.

Hey there! Anthony Thomas with DISH Network Customer Service. Unfortunately when a hard drive goes bad or the box itself won't power up, there is no way to recover the recordings. If a hard reset has not helped (unplugging the receiver for a bit and then plug it back in), then the receiver must be replaced to become operational and the recordings are lost. Not good news, but I hope this helps.

You may want to see what it would take to upgrade to a VIP HD DVR, as those can allow an external hard drive between 50 GB and 1 TB to "back up" recordings (activating the feature costs $40). When backed up though, should the receiver ever need replaced it would not be so devastating as the recordings are safely on the external drive, not to mention you can subscribe to HD! When considering the HDD to purchase, this link may help. http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/setup-ehd

How do I get closed captioning on my 625 dish dvr.

Guest,

The 625 receiver does not have a setting to control closed caption. This is a setting from your TV itself. I would look at your TV manual to see how you can turn the feature on. I hope this helps.

DVR is inaccessible. Error 024 "Unable to access this feature at this time. Data not available." SAT connection fine - just dvr issue.

You will need the receiver replaced as the hard drive is developing an internal error. Thanks for using Fix Ya.

Recovery of content on DVR-625 hard drive

usually hard drive failure boils down to files not opening succesfully, or a random internal failure, not a physical issue with the hard drive, however because dish network repairs these issues on a large scale the fix is to wipe the software and start over which means all recordings are lost, unfortunately recovering these recordings is basically impossible... if you often record things which are imperative to your business i would suggest getting a 622/722 dvr which will allow you to download these recordings to an external hard drive via usb, you will have unlimited use uploading and downloading programs for a one time fee of about 40$
