Dell tower flashing amber light

This indicates a hardware warning... or malfunction.... could be fan speed, power supply, CPU heat, battery... etc
Need to know the model of the unit,
If the unit is under warranty, you can contact dell and give them your service tag number and they will help troubleshoot further.
They do have software that will take that amber light and convert it to an indication on the screen for you to take action on the failure or warning

How do I fix problems of Dell computer 780 with power light yellow and black screen?

getnet,
What do the diagnostic led lights show. The diagnostic LEDs are located on the front of the chassis next to the power button. These diagnostic LEDs are only active and visible during the POST process. Once the operating system starts to load, they turn off and are no longer visible. Below is the manual that provides information on what the led pattern shows to help resolve the issue.

My power button cable is missing so i plug into the wall pc starts up no noise but fan amber light but black screen graphics card fine?

Dont worry about on/off cable. if you have restart / reset button, remove that cable from motherboard and insert it in power on pins and use reset button as on/off switch.

If this occurs, the projector does not turn back on. To replace the lamp, see on page 38.

Dell opitiplex 280 is not giving display. first of all his fan speed to much high and then after 4 or 5 day its display disappeared. its just picking now power and fan also start with high noise and...

OK, I use GX280s as home servers and ran into a similar problem with one of them...

The problem may be serious and not worth fixing (motherboard).

Turn power on
Fan(s) come on full power, sounds like a jet engine, or eventually gets that loud.

See if you power light has gone amber.

You get nothing on the screen, no Dell splash screen/post, nothing.

This is what I posted a while back concerning the above. Obviously I cannot bee 100% certain as I do not have your box in front of me. This a known issue.

--------

See if the power light goes amber after power up. I had (have - still siting in my basement) one that did same. Power up, fans go full blast . Power light goes and stays amber. This is USUALLY caused by bad capacitors on the mother board. Known GX280 problem going back. If you look on the motherboard, the capacitors should have flat tops and not leaking. If the are rounded or leaking, the MB has probably gone bad. Bottom line this is usually a defective motherboard. Mine was a bad caps issue, you issue could be different, but it does sound like the motherboard.

You can google "gx280 solid amber light loud fan" and see the issues. Here is one link.

I just replaced one of my old 280s with a dual core Dell Precision 390 workstation for about $118, and that included shipping, off of ebay.

My dell GX 270 computer has amber mother board light,No display, processor fan runs, power supply fan rotates.

hi ansilesh

If the power light is steady amber - The computer is receiving
electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Ensure that the microprocessor power cable is securely connected to the
system board.
it might also be a failed mainboard already since you are experiencing a blackout.

hope this helps

Amber light on power button of Dell Dimension 4500

ok - the amber light of doom on a dell means one of two things - either your power supply is pooched - or your motherboard, If under warranty dell will send out a friendly tech to replace them - if not it will cost you a bit. get the price and consider if it worth upgrading instead. Contact your dell rep or dell tech support and see what they say

cheers Pete

No display and wont boot

A Blinking Amber or Yellow power button means that the power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Power supply is easier and cheaper to replace.
