Playback problems with previous recorded miniDV

It started to playback
without sound and worse, in chunky, blocky bits.
Picture will look normal in slow motion; but at
normal speed, the streaky blocks will appear again.
Initially, I thought that it's the tapes but this
problems affects every single tape I have.
Have tried to clean the video head to no avail.
Now here comes the strange part - works fine for
newly recorded footage.

    The same as Vince 38.

How do you reset the camera to the facory settings?

Playback loses sound and picture streaky but then picture clears and becomes normal later on in the tape. Cleaned heads put still no better. Did playback tape once and was all good but on next playback became streaky. Is it because the tape has been in the camera too long or tape getting tight. If simple solution to problem alright but to get someone to repair it would be costly and might just as well buy a new camera.
    Any suggestions.

Just check your setting and make your camera in default setting try to use the recommended tapes only

Lcd monitor on video just colored lines no picture

Let me know more about this, is the camera on play back or recording mode. In case of recording I am afraid you need CCD change. If playback, many factors affecting playback picture, but the worse thing is broken video head. Hope it helps

Monitor and recorded picture out of sync.

It sounds like the sync pulse is not being recorded properly. I don't see too many PAL decks here in the Us, so I'll have to research this a bit. One thing you can try though, is to play back a previously recorded betacam tape and report the results. We need to determine whether the problem is in the record or playback circuitry.

Thanks,
Dan

Hello,

Sorry about delayed reply as I just saw it.

Its known problem of ccd imager in Canon ZR85 camcorder and ccd imager needs to be replaced.

Canon will repair your camcorder free of cost as per announced scheme for ccd imager issue.

Click Canon CCD Advisory for details, how to get free repair.

Regarding can't see picture or time code in playback, it is problem of dirty / clogged video heads. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette to clean heads and hope camera will show playback picture.

Good luck.

Solid blue lines through Picture on playback mini DV PV-gs19

One possible cause is that normal recording
could not be performed because the heads were
dirty at the time of recording. Clean the heads,
and perform recording and playback again. If
normal playback can be performed, the heads are
clean. Before an important recording, be sure to
conduct a test recording to make sure that normal
recording can be performed.

≥If the heads become dirty soon after cleaning,
the problem may be the tape. If so, try another
cassette.

≥During playback, the picture or sound may be
interrupted momentarily, but this is not a
malfunction of the Camcorder. (One possible
cause is that the playback is interrupted by dirt
or dust that momentarily adheres to the heads.)

Choppy recording and playback

If the heads become dirty, “NEED HEAD
CLEANING” appears during recording. During
playback, moreover, the following symptoms
appear.
≥Mosaic-like noise appears partially or the
sound is interrupted.
≥Black or blue mosaic-like horizontal stripes
appear.
