Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

What to do when no audio/sound after computer reformat

Normally, when you buy a computer, whether desk top or lap top, there's an installation disk that accompanies the unit. This is a moterboard installaer. all the drivers needed by the motherboard is in this disk, but most of the time, the retailers will not give this to you unless you ask for it. This is needed to ensure that the right drivers installed will be compatible with your motherboard, especially during formatting or re-formatting prcess. So if you have recently formatted your computer and there's no sound you can just install the motherboard drivers from the installer then presto, all your needed drivers are installed. But if you don't have the installation disk or mis placed it already, then use the following tips to troubleshoot your audio problems. I hope this will help.
Tip #1. Before formatting your computer, whether a desk top or a lap top, make sure to back up your drivers using programs such as "driver genius", "driver checker" or "driver magician" . These programs can be downloaded freely from their respective sites as "Trial Versions". Download and install any of these programs. Any way, although it's only a trial version, you can use all the function of the program, especially the 'back up driver' function. Make sure to back up your drivers to a location not to the disk/drive that you are going to reformat, otherwise it will be erased during formatting. Use a removable disk/drive or USB to back up your drivers. You can now reformat your computer. After reformat, try to check if there is a sound coming out from your speakers. If no sound is coming out then there must be a problem with the audio drivers. To make sure what is causing the problem, try the following troubleshooting guides ; 1) Click 'start', then 'control panel', double click 'sounds and audio devices', if it says that there is no audio device present, then the problem is on the multi-media device driver. 2) If there is a mult- media device present( ex.AC 97), then the problem is on the audio driver.Whichever the case maybe, double click the 'system' from 'control panel' then click the 'hardware' then 'device manager'. From the device manager, click on the sound, video and game controllers. Right click on the audio device( ex. realtek audio), then click update driver. The hardware & update wizzard will appear, click on 'install from a specified location', click 'next', then specify the folder where you stored your back up drivers, specifically your audio device driver, click 'ok' then the old audio driver will be re installed. Try playing a sound from your computer after reboot.
Tip #2. If after trying the first option and still no sound is produced, try to re install your old drivers using the program you used to back up your drivers by using the 'restore driver' option. make sure to specify the location of your back up driver when prompted. After re installing re boot then play a sound.
Tip #3. If upon restoring the back up drivers, still no sound is produced, go to the windows update using internet explorer browser. After checking your system for critical updates, a run down of updates will be posted, check if there's an update for your audio device driver, select he update then click '
ok'. Re boot your system then play asound.
Tip #4. Before doing all the other tips make sure to check if your connections are in tack, sometimes the problem is only a loose connection of the speaker jacks, or for lap top make sure that your speakers are not in a mute mode or off position.

where is the microphone on a dell dimension 5150?

You have to buy an external mic and put it in the sound card - the machine doesn't come with a mic installed on the unit. Some lap tops do but desk tops do not.

No Internet via zoom X6 wireless router to desk top, lap top ok.

Access your zoom router by using the laptop which still has access to the router.

Your going to have to open your Wireless Network Connection Status window located under your network settings.

If you see this window your going to left click the (details) button

Now you should see a IP DNS server address
for example: 192.168.1.xxx

Type that address onto the address bar of your web browser.

it should take you to your router setup page.

There you will need to check if the lan port is enabled

HP812C and/or Epson LX300+ dot matrix Printers installed to a HP V3431 lap top computer would not print.

Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer websites rather then relaying on the old cdroms - they are probarbly outdated and made for XP.
