This is an indication of a failing inverter, the inverter is used to light the lamps in back of the screen. also check for bad caps on the power supply or missing 12 or 18v from the power supply

If both screens flased and then it went off the logic board has failed, but if it was just the top screen flashed the bottom screen is faulty and needs to be replaced. can you post back and tell me which one one it was.cheers.

i have the same camera and experiencing the same problem, it doesn't matter what batteries i put in (fully charged rechargables or dry cell AA) the low battery icon flashes then the screen flickers and goes off. i suspect it to be another onboard battery so i have found a small button 3v battery soldered to the main board. i have desoldered it and am now sourcing one so when i find it and try it i will contact you to confirm my results.
