Connected new DVD player to new TV and the picture is in black and white. Cannot figure out how to get colour from looking very closely at both manuals. Please advise!
I have a sharp lc-32p50e and I get a black and white picture when I use the first scart connection socket for anything I plug in. Picture is normal when I connect on the second scart socket. First time I have needed to use both so not sure when the problem began.I have a sharp lc-32p50e and I get a black and white picture when I use the first scart connection socket for anything I plug in. Sounds like you are using standard audio/video cables (yellow, blk., wht) in the component conections on either the tv, vcr or dvd player. If you intend on using component connection you will need to use different cables.

If using component video out please make sure that all cables are firmly and securely connected to the player and the TV. -Component = Green/Blue/Red cables or jacks.
If using the video out please make sure that the TV color settings are not set to grey or black and white.
If everything is connected properly I would recommend to connect the player to another TV to see if the same issue will occur. Also check the color settings on the DVD player under picture mode.
Make sure that the TV system that the DVD is outputting is NTSC, Press SYSTEM button on the remote control (is there's such button) or change the system in the DVD's menu.
If you are saying that when your DVP player is connected to the TV, it is showing black and white, then you might need to press the NTSC/PAL button on your DVD's remote control. Press that button until color comes back.
If the DVD is connected to the TV properly using the yellow, white & red AV cable and the TV is switched to AV and there is still no picture, plug the yellow lead from the back of the DVD player into the green socket. If you see a black and white picture now the DVD output is on Progressive Scan mode. See user manual to turn off Progressive Scan mode.
First thing- why not just use the HDMI instead of standard def cables in the first place?
Anyway-
If the RCA-video (yellow composite cable) is not producing color, 1 of 2 things may be wrong:
1. You accidentally connected the a/v cables [yellow white and red] to [red green and blue] component inputs or vice versa, or..
2. Your TV or DVD player is somehow set to the wrong video format. Check the DVD settings for video output format and video connector type. Format should be NTSC, and connector should be composite and/or s-video for the cables you're using.
If this is only happening when connecting the DVD player through the VCR, then check to make sure the same cables connecting the DVD player to the the VCR are also connected to the TV from the VCR.
BTW- if this is just to record DVDs to a VCR, I'll tell you it's not worth it. If your DVD player has an HDMI port, your picture quality will be so much better than if you're watching a VCR copy of one. Your new HDTV will look worse than an old standard def TV. Worse; I'm not kidding.
I hope some of this helps.
Ok, I'm not sure what you mean by digibox. Under what conditions are you able to see things in color? Is a digibox a seperate device you can get to work with the same connection as your player? If one device displays color on the same connection and another doesn't then that seems to rule out the television being the problem. Can you clarify a little more?
If you are playing different region dvds, they can be of different color formats also
(US = NTSC, Europe = PAL). If your television is not multi-format then non-compatible
DVDs will play black and white. The solution is to purchase a mutli-format TV (accepts
both PAL and NTSC formats)
If you are using the s-video jack to connect the DVD to the TV, the jack could be loose or the wire could be bad. The s-video cable has 2 signals, the black-and-white (luminance) and the color (chroma). If the chroma signal is not getting through, the picture will be in black and white.
