Hi, I had the same problem. The following Cause and solution may help you fix your machine.
All refereces to left and right are facing the front of the machine as if for normal use.
The cause is due to the connector on thtop left rear of the imaging unit. this connector is mated with a coresponding, retractable connector in the body of the machine. When you open the cover over the top of the imaging unit, this connector retracts back into the body of the machine and when you close the lid it should re-engage with the imaging unit, The problem is that it dosen;t reconnect. I have asumed that it is due wear in the connector operating mechanism. This solution was effective for my printer.
Switch Off!!!
remove the topcover (after removing the colour catridges )and. remove the left hand side panel. You will see a nylon gear mechanism. Sqeeze together the nylon clip inthe centre of the gear wheel, and pull the gear about halfway off. This should allow you to move the vertical geared bar up 1 notch. .Push the gear wheel back on and try the machine to see if it works ok. All covers will need to be closed and if it works ok , reassemle the machine. Job done -about 10 to 15 mins. It tookme alot longer to find it,so some feedback would be appreciated.

Hi.
I had similar problem after removing a paper jam on MagiColor 3300 : "Imaging unit missing". The connector (top left rear of Imaging Unit) was not connected right into the machine. Removing left cover panel was a bit tricky, I believe I didn't use the right way, but get it. Moving the nylon gearwheel left&rigt untill the connector are pluged in has been enough.
Many thanks

I had the same problem. I have the Magicolor 3300 and I had gotten a
thin test piece of paper stuck in the imaging unit. I took out the
imaging unit and pulled the paper out. Unfortunately, one side of the
handle popped out and 1/2 of the unit fell and bumped against the left
side of the pinter. I found this post and found the document (Available
herehttp://www.jeffvojtko.com/images/mc3300s... followed the
directions and voila. Fixed.
Same problem. Magicolor 3300DN displayed a message that we need to order a new imaging unit. Ordered it. Followed installation instructions from manual very carefully, but received the "Imaging Unit Missing" error. Tried replacing the new unit with the old. No luck. This printer has been very costly in toner, imaging units, fuser units, etc.
