I think you will find support on Lenovo's web sites for older IBM Thinkpads. Have a web search on google or bing or whatever.
Search words: "Hard drive" "IBM Thinkpad"
Here is their homepage:

Restore IBM Thinkpad R500 Windows Vista to factory settings, erasing all passwords

You need a recovery disc for this operation. If you're any good with computers at all, and do not do this lightly, you can download dukes ban. Again this is not for novice pc users. This will literally and completely wipe your entire computer. Nothing will be recoverable and you will have to set everything. even the Hard Drive sizes. You will then need an OS disc like windows vista, windows 7, windows xp, etc and reload the entire OS back onto the hard drive.

Are all hard drives the same in size? I mean can I take a hard drive 36 GB and put it in a IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X41?

Laptops hard drives have the same physical size but they maybe use IDE/PATA or SATA data connections.

I need a hard disk for IBM notebook Thinkpad R50e with following details: MODEL: MHT2060AT REV.NO.: __FB-8431 Can you help me, please? Thanks in advance Rosy Calamita

Any laptop ATA drive will work in that machine
The one you have is 60g but it can be replaced with any size you can purchase.
Just be sure it is ATA and NOT SATA

My ibm thinkpad t43 displayed a message "hard error D0014" on a small blue screen. when i shut it down by pressing the power button for a few seconds, it restarted. but the programs won't work.

This could be a problem, not sure if its a software related or if the hard drive is bad. If you can find a windows xp cd. Try and wipe out the hard drive and install windows xp on it. If it goes thru then you'll just need the drivers. If it errors out on you then you know its a problem with the hard drive and you'll need to replace it. If you get windows xp installed on it, let me know and I'll help you with the drivers.

Thinkpad T42 Hard Disk problem

Hello.

It seems the hard disk size will max out at 80GB with a 5,400 RPM speed according to IBM.

Im sorry to say that this means that it will not support a 120Gb hard drive.

Noisy hard drive

Hi,

It is relatively easy involving a single screw at the bottom and pulling it out. Initially, pls reference this page. Additionally, Lenovo has an instructional movie should you be interested.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

My IBM Think Pad T30 showin working on AC with out powering..

If it's not finding the operating system, and you'va ran the recovery cd, then the problem is going to be that the hard drive has failed and will need replaced. In order to double check and make sure it's the hard drive, run the recovery or operating system disc, and reformat the hard drive. If the hard drive will not format, then it's bad.

Processor and Disk space

The biggest processor available for the T20 is 1ghz. Be sure when replacing the processor that you get an IBM 133mhz processor. The memory is 1g max, the machine will hold two 512mb chips, and be sure that it's PC133 memory. You can put up to a 120g hard drive in the machine, be sure the hard drive is an IDE 4200rpm drive. These are the specs for the T20, and the maximum size this machine will hold. You can go to this max or anyplace in between.

Thinkpad 600E

Error 19990301 on a Thinkpad 600 usually indicates that the hard drive is not properly connected, and error code 19990305 signifies "no bootable device". So, it's the hard drive.

First of all, I would try removing and replacing the drive to see if that cures it. You can get the service manual from Lenovo at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LWIK-3SYPX2

If this doesn't fix it, the hard drive is faulty. However, small size hard drives (10 or 20Gb) which suit these older machines are very cheap on eBay.
