first put the cd that comes with your printer and install all the drivers and software then after this is done plug in a usb cord. take a usb printer cord plug in the one end that fits your printer and the other end is for your laptop plug it into your usb port and thats it
This printer has three standard ports: bi-directional parallel, USB, and ethernet (RJ-45). Most likely your previous computer had a parallel port. The simplest solution is to get a USB cable (Male type A to Male type B - 6' or less in length is recommended.) Install the software on the computer then connect the cable to the port on the back of the printer and to the computer (the square end goes to the printer and the rectangle fits the computer). The USB port is in the same area on the left side of the back of the
printer as the parallel port.
Alternatively you could get a network switch and connect the printer as a networked printer. The ethernet port is near the middle of the back of the printer.
1. Make sure the product is on, and then disconnect the power cord from the product. 2. Disconnect the USB cable from the product, and then disconnect it from the computer. 3. Reconnect the USB cable to the computer, and then reconnect it securely to the product. 4. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet, and then reconnect it to the wall outlet. 5. Reconnect the power cord to the product. 6. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
If the issue still persists please get back to me with the Printer name and model number
Try using another USB port if you have one. If the others are full, disconnect one of your devices from the USB port and try your printer there. For some reason, switching the USB port sometimes makes devices connect. Good luck!
printer type? brand? the normal usb connector will not fit unless it has one.. normally it will be a firewire type connection with a male usb connector on the other end.
If you are looking at the back of the printer, just to the right of the USB port is where the power cable goes. ( o o ) <--- Kinda looks like that but vertical, not horizontal as I drew it. Hope this helps.
Unless the power cord is loose, it sounds like the unit is defective. There are two places to check the power cord. The 'brick' has to be firmly inserted into the back of the printer and the cord has to be properly fitting into the brick. If all is well there, it sounds like something more drastic is wrong.
you can try looking at thrift stores, usually they have a "cord wall" or cord bin, that lexmark I believe has the power supply that kind of fits into the back of the printer so it should be easy to spot, but when you look at the power suppliy make sure it says lexmark on it before you buy it,
just an idea
