Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Not cooling

is the freezer plugged into a gfi outlet? outlet may have tripped.
if there is power to the unit: (light on, fan running, etc.)
a large clump of frost around the lines/ top shelf, means it could be a leaker and will need to be replaced.
a clicking, humming noise repeating every few minutes could be a compressor start relay.
if the freezer has tripped the breaker, the compressor has developed an internal short and again would have to be replaced

I have summit commercial freezer with embraco emi 60her when turn the power on, fan start run then compressor start run about 30 second the trip the compressor. ans i can not see any run or start...

The start relay should be on the side of the compressor and attached to the three prongs that wiring attaches to on the compressor. Is the problem causing the breaker to trip in the circuit breaker box? Sea Breeze
You can have someone match the start relay and the run capacitor at a refrigeration supply store near you or you can contact Summit

My FFA70 fridge/freezer is causing my circuit breaker to trip, when I reset the circuit breaker the fridge/freezer will work again, but both the red bight temp warning light and the freezer defrost light...

kevinmdoyle... Hello and welcome to FIXYA,

Yours is a UK model... so I (usa) can't help you
on SPARES (motor start capacitor) ... however

Circuit breakers do go bad...!!
(easiest & cheapest to check first)

MUCH Easier to test the idea than you would imagine:
- Shut OFF your main breaker.
- Open your panel & swap the wire with an EQUAL breaker
- Tag the wires (to restore when finished trouble shooting)
- Restore the main breaker (wait & see)...

and don't forget to clean that CONDENSOR
per owner manual instructions.

If the failure persists... RESORE the BREAKERS.
and
HOPE it is the START CAPACITOR on your compressor.

Hi - We've got a Turbo Air TGF-23F mrechandising freezer that freezes - down to -15 and then suddently begins to warm up about 1 degree per minute. In about 15 minutes its just over 0 degrees and...

Did they test the thermostat? I would think that the compressor would kick on before you got that much of a fluctuation, unless the thermostat is not sensing the change fast enough.

The run and start capactiors and relay, did they give you a reason for that? When the compressor kicks on does it surge the power? Light dim or something? It is hard to guess without being able to put an o'scope on your machine to be able to see what it is doing, but just based on what your write-up was, I can't see the parts you said they want to replace will fix the problem.

Frezzer runs but the compresser does not comes on

1. is light on in side when you open the door. If not check breakers or fuses.
2. Can you hear the compressor running. If not do you hear any clicking sounds.
3. If you hear clicking sounds, try putting a fan on compressor and unplug refrigerator.
4. Wait one hour.
5. plug back in. If compressor starts let it run and see if it cools, if it doesnt, call service man.
6. If it goes back to clicking, call a service man.
let me know if this helps.

Model # t49f 2 dr. freezer unit tripping 20amp

Probably the compressor has shorted.
99.999% of the time this is the main culprit.
Otherwise wiring short.

Condensing unit terns off but won't come back on kicks off breaker

If it runs, turns off, then tries to restart and kicks breaker, look for bad start components. Check start relay, start capacitor. It may be trying to restart too quickly and the compressor over amps and breaker trips. The system needs to have at least 3 minutes of off time before trying to restart. This allows the pressures in the system to balance enough so the compressor can overcome the high side pressure and start. I've seen where people turn the control up and down very quickly causing the compressor to over amp and trip breakers and over loads.
Hope this gets it for you.

Everything works fine, except when the compressor kicks in the panel breaker trips.

Most likely a short in the compressor electrical components (relay, overload, capacitor) Supco makes a 3 in 1 that you could use. If this works fine, if not "bad compressor".

Freezer Just Stop Working

You should not run your freezer from a strip plug, only from a wall outlet. It is OK for a small spark to occur since the freezer is trying to start the compressor as you plug it in. If there is a big spark that kicks out the circuit breaker if you plug it into a wall socket, then there is a short in the compressor or light circuit in the freezer. A strip plug in probably will not have the capacity to run the freezer. Plug it into the wall socket and try that. If you have a circuit breaker kick out, then it's your appliance. Hope this helps you, Rick
