During our trip through the USA, I intend to buy a Nintendo DS Lite. Now I'm wondering, if the Nintendo DS Lite will be able to run our European games too or only the American ones? Or do you have some codefree Nintendo DS Lite? Thanks for your reply
According to information provided by the manufacturer, Nintendo products made for use within the U.S. are not desgined for overseas use. This unfortunately means that games purchased within the U.S. may not function correctly when used in a DS Lite purchased in Europe.
Some of the most common reasons why this restriction would be in place are potential language barriers (for warnings, operating instructions and disclaimers), as well as differing government regulations between the two regions regarding the product's warranty or potential safety/electrical concerns.
While some users may report cross-compatiblity between foreign consoles and select game titles, this cannot be guaranteed in every instance. Nintendo itself has suggested only purchasing games for the DS Lite (and other consoles) in the region where the DS Lite itself is purchased.

"The immediate successor to the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo DSi,
is region-locked, but only in terms of its downloadable games. Physical
DS game carts will play on it regardless of region of origin (DSi-only
and even DSi-enhanced games are region-locked though)."
look.i have a nintendo ds light..but its not that wonderful.its boring.im not even playing with it.so its better if u dont buy cuz its spending of money i tell u
When you boot the Nintendo DS you can change the illumination settings in the main menu. One the main menu, you will find a sunny symbol in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on that and you should be able to change the level of illumination. If you are also wondering if you can change the brightness during game play, you can't. Games such as Mario 64 DS come with support for brightness change but otherwise you have to do it before game play.
You can pick a game from another region and it will
work on your DS. You are not bound by your country/region. Straight out
of the factory all DS consoles are compatible with games from any
regions.
Release region determines the language options the game has.
USA games will be in English, European will have UK English and main EU
languages available.
The games are all full DS games, meaning that they
are made for the two screens of the Nintendo DS and many of them are
interactive via the touch screen technology.
