Hi, i have an Acer AL1715.
The power LED goes on, after some seconds it goes off again.
I see the backlight for a short moment trying to go on.
I opened it and see that a capacitor is mechanicaly deformed, it is a 16V (C922).
I disconnected the backlight from the powersuply and plugged the power suply in; then the LED stays green and goes orange because no VGA signal is there.
So i think there is a problem, that the power suply tries to power on the back light, but there is not enough charge on one of the capacitors so it goes off again. But i dont know which capacitor to change.
Before i change all of the capacitors i want to ask you maybe you know the solution.
Hi maxwell,
Firstly check for the surrounding components like th coupling resistors for a short. Change them, then look for leaky diodes (a diode shows low resistance when connected to a multimeter with correct polarity and MUST show infinite i.e. NO resistance at all when polarity of the meter testprods are reversed) As for the deformed capacitor change it with similar type, voltage and size.
VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you put in the new one back in the same polarity (since it is an electrolytic type capacitor from what you mentioned in your querry) elase the new one will explode if the polarity is wrong.
Better still, if you are not good at soldering components that are so closely attached on the circuit board, just give it to an authorised service center in your area.
