When I insert a DVD disc I get the message "cannot read disc". The DVD player will play an audio CD but not the video. DVD player is a JVC Model #XV-N320.

Hi,

Good day. The message your getting only tells you that the Dvd your trying to play have a lot of scratches already that makes it unreadable for your dvd player. You can try to wipe the dvd first then try it again. If it doesn't work then that means the dvd unusable. Hope this information help a bit in resolving your question. Thanks for using fixya and have a great day

I have a JVC DVD Player (XV-N670B), (XV-N672S). I recently purchased a BluRay DVD and after inserting the DVD into the player, "Disc Error" appears. Would you tell me if my player can...

Sorry to say, no; this is a model limitation not a fault as such. XV-N670B is a DVD player, and the playable formats are:

DVD-Video, DVD-RW/-R, +RW/+R, CD, CD-R/RW, SVCD/VCD, WMA/MP3/JPEG, DivX. No Blu-ray support.

The JVC XV-BP11 and XV-BP1 do play Blu-Ray discs, as they are specifically Blu-Ray players (according to the JVC website).

I have heard of quite a few Blu-Ray players allowing DVD playback. The XV-BP1 supports the following playable media: BD-R/RE (Blu-Ray), DVD-Video/-R/-RW, R/ RW, CD, USB (again, this is from the same JVC website). You would need to purchase this or a similar Blu-Ray player to enjoy the benefits it has to offer (but it's up to you if you want one of those later on).

DVDs are still good, the 'disc error' message on your DVD player is normal due to the wrong media format inserted. The bonus here is it didn't cost you anything to ask, and you don't need a workshop quote on repairs.

This is the best free advice I can offer.

My grandson wants a dvd player JVC XV-670 free code so he can play UK DVDs on his Panasonic Plasma tv in Canada. Will this player do the trick? He doesn't want to spend much, so wondering if this will...

Another user at this site had some success using the following procedure to unlock their XV-n670 DVD player: (the code is actually for model JVC XV-N652)

  • Open tray
  • Press 0 three times
  • Brings up a menu
  • Press 0 for multi region

Connecting DVD player to Viewsonic TV

You will use component video cables.  They come in threes and all they require you to do is connect the DVD output with the TV input and match the cable colors on both ends.  They will be red, white, and yellow.  The yellow is the video, and red and white are left and right audio.  If your TV is too old to have stereo audio, only one (red or white) audio cable needs to be connected.  It doesn't matter which.  The yellow cable always needs to be connected.

Another option, but a slightly less common one, is to use a single AV cable to connect the two.  The reason this is less common is because most newer TV's do not have AV input, and newer DVD players do not have AV output.  If it does, however, this is the most simple, and you probably wish to take advantage of it, so you have a connection available when you purchase a newer unit which does not have AV.

    JVC DVD player problem

You have set the DVD to progressive output for your big tv. The little one will not accept this. Your manual will tell you how to reset it. The remote may be needed. Reconnect it to the big tv and check the menus.

I apologize, I don't have a solution, but I can tell you that I've had TWO units, same model, with the same problem, in a 300 seat lecture hall on campus. The first time the vendor replaced the unit, now the second one is doing the same thing, and it's not under warranty anymore. I'm going to contact the company and if I get any satisfaction, I will post another message.
