The Westell 327W (VersaLink) combination DSL 'modem', router and wireless access

use another computer to download SP2 onto CD or a USB drive, then copy onto your XP SP1, it will provide more dirvers. Be sure and remove the modem before you start all of this. And also look at Computer, Drivers and uninstall any drivers for your modem model. Install SP2 and do windows update. I would also recommend after this to get SP3.
Last step if Windows doesn't have the driver is to get the driver from the manufactures website. Some modems have specific PC software beyond the driver to use it.
when you had the internet installed, did you install the modem software for the modem? without the modem software, the modem cannot find the pc. if the modem connects directly to the pc, or even through a wired/wireless router, the modem software is a requirement. (i just went through all this myself w/ att dsl). if you have, or add, a router, that software will also need to be installed for those on the network to connect to the internet as well.

Hello there, sounds to me like a softwere problem. Try downloading the drivers again from the website of the make of the modem.
Install them again - if you're getting the same message after, Download anti-virus FREE AVG you can find this at this link for windows: http://free3.grisoft.cz/softw/70free/setup/avg75free_446a965.exe Install this run it on a test see what it says and you may find your problem.
if not then you could do a deep clean and fully re-install windows xp - REMEMBER TO BACK-UP ANY FILES YOU WANT TO KEEP BEFORE DOING SO.
in the meantime good luck
