I need to update my bios, or at least get it working, because it isnt recognizing any batteries that I put in it. Whenever I power on the computer, and attempt to open the bios setup, it opens, however it remains stuck on the first screen without displaying any of the information, or allowing me to make any changes to the bios. Ive thought about removing, and or replacing the motherboard battery in an attempt to reset the bios, the problem is I dont know where to start tearing apart the laptop to find it. And secondly I dont know if this will solve my problem. Aside from those issues, windows starts up perfectly but the battery doesnt work, so it only runs when its plugged in.
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the hard drive. I had replaced the hard drive with a much larger one and I guess the Dell bios did not like it. I put a small hard drive in the laptop and everything came back to working just fine.

Hello I am having the same problem. I have two batteries neither of which are detected even at full charge. My laptop only runs when its plugged in. My bios appears just as you said it remains stuck on the first page. This happened after my machine shut itself off i think due to overheating. I have done many upgrades and it has run great for over a year now. I have a much larger processor than my motherboard was meant for but it still ran with it in. Have you made any changes to your laptop recently? This happened to me right after i replaced the harddrive. Please let me know if you have fixed the problem thanks!
