you can try unlocking your phone through codes. its the safe way to unlock your phone. because when you unlock your phone through software or hardware there are possibilities for data getting corrupted or lost. but there is no such possibilities when you unlock through codes. thats y i prefer this method to unlock my phone. i got the codes from this site Theunlockarena.com to unlock my phone.
you will need to register your sim card on line or in the phone shop that your sim card is from (if it is from vodafone then take it to a vodafone shop, ect) you will have to do this otherwise you will just keep wasting your money, keep all the credit slips that you have bought and take them with you and explain to them what you have paid for.
no u can't ur contacts back because contacts usually store in phone or in sim memory u have lost ur phone and sim too no so u cant get them back u can activate ur vodafone sim

i recommend you contact your phone network provide ie. vodaphone 02 orange and inform them and they will be able to unblock the phone for you free of charge
http://www.cell-unlock.com/motorola-razr-v3x-unlock.htm is one I found you can find many just by googling unlock codes for whatever phone model you have. Some are as cheap as $1.99 some are up to $20 but read and make sure they are verified so you don't pay someone that doesn't help you. Most of them are honest companies, you can pay by credit, debit or paypal and have code in 20 minutes max.
