Gateway M-6843 Notebook Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 21, 2010

Ok so I'm fixing this Gateway M-6843 for a friend... When I turn it on it will try to boot but then it goes to a bios looking screen and says Windows Error Recovery at the top and it gives the options of Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. If I choose Launch Startup Repair it will start a loading screen and above the bar it will say Winows is loading files.... It will load them and then wait like a minute and it will reboot itself and go back to the same Error Recovery screen. Also if i pick start windows normally it will load like it is going to load the OS and then reboot and go back to same Error Recovery screen. Please Help!! Thank you, Jonathan

  1. Turn on the computer.
  2. After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, repeatedly press the F8 key. The Advanced Boot Options menu opens. If it doesn't the motherboard is most likely bad).
  3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (advanced), and then press the ENTER key.
If that does not work, turn PC off, Do this again, but this time choose 'repair your computer' at the top.
If it still does not work, either your hard drive went bad or Windows is corrupt. Either way Windows must be re-installed.

Please help. I want to reinstall the operating system and drivers from the recovery dvd disk for my Gateway M-6843 Notebook, but the DVD drive is not able to read and let the system to boot from the dvd.

if ur dvd drive is working, try this. go to ur bios and then the boot section, then keep ur dvd/cd drive in first priority then save and exit. shal work. its easier to reboot OS win7 with pendrive. download win7 USB download tool. install it, run the tool and proceed as it asks.

I have a gateway 400 VTX that powers on to the Bios screen then goes to another screen that says operating system not found. I have tried to load the os cd and it looks like its loadind and says windows is...

Sounds like u need to go into CMOS (System Setup) upon boot & make sure that the HARD DRIVE is the FIRST item in the BOOT ORDER and NOT your CD DRIVE. Also, make sure your Hard Drive shows up in the CMOS. If it does, then note what it says about the hard drive as it boots... If it is a bad hard drive, then nothing will install to it unless it is fixed or replaced.

I had changed my password and forgot it how can i unlock it ? i have a gateway laptop.

If the password is on the bios then this won't help, but if the password is on windows in the Log On Screen then try this win Xp and win Vista only:
When booting Up teh machine press (F8) that will give many options Select "Safe Mode" then wait until boots up and there will be an administrator account log into that acount and then go to "Start>control pannel>User Accounts then choose an account and remove the password . Hope this helps you

Gateway m-6843 won't boot

before we jump into conclusion that the motherbaord has a problem. try using first the recovery cd provided by the manufacturer. boot your computer from the cd rom and install a clean copy of windows. if same thing happen then you need to send your laptop to the manufacturer for repair if unit is still under warranty. thanks

Gateway t 1625 laptop not booting

If u can, try to reformat it, reason i say this simple solution is because u already had the laptop looked at professionally, and due to you're laptop being stuck at the windows screen, i see this happen on HDD swaps a lot. The HDD needs to be repair-formatted or fully reformatted to talk to the new mobo when switched out, try this if all else fails, i personally think giving this simple solution may fix the boot up issue, but do make sure ur friend who looked at your laptop hadn't reset ur C MOS and may of not reconfigured it, this may also be the main cause of boot up troubles so make sure everything looks fine in ur BIOS. Gabriel will have a more proper solution than this but i believe by doing this it may help u bypass ur loading issue

Gateway 995 boot problems

Maybe you can check you BIOS / your boot device priority and set it to your hard drive as default.

If this doesn't work, then the problem would be your hard drive (it's read / write function is not functioning properly.)

System recovery

It sounds like the boot sector on your main hard drive is corrupted. You should have created an emergency boot disk when you first purchased the computer. Since you don't have the oroginals you should borrow a system CD from a friend and boot up that way and try to a recovery. Selecting F8 during the bootup sequence allows one to start if Safe mode, but I believe (I usually run Linux) you still need the boot sector on the main hard drive to be valid in order for this to work. The F1 gets you to the Bios screen (?) where you can select the boot sequence (hard drive, CD, or floppy first/second/third), among other things. Hopefully someone with more Windows experience than I can assistance better than I can, I just thought I'd throw that out there.
