I can only record when the TV is switched on. The Scart lead is set up correctly so the problem must be a setting on the DVD but I can't find it. If I switch off to record it just tapes a black screen. Please help.

When I switch on my dvd even the set up page is in black and white. Originally I was getting no picture so I made sure everything was plugged in. Then I got the black and white.

Check the scart cable , try connecting it to another scart socket on the tv. I would even change the scart lead to make sure its ok. I have had loads of similar problems like that caused by scart leads faulty or connected to the wrong socket.

Wharfedale DVD recorder, no sound. Scart lead connected to Sky Box & scart connection to TV. Picture OK & can play DVD's or record to HD but no sound.

HI if you mean scart connectors on rear of DVD recorder, try swapping scart inputs on DVD recorder and if no joys then on set top box. (some units have 1 input designated for TV and the other for Set top box input)

Useless at setting up. No sound on playback. Blocked timer record

You won`t get round the scan without an aerial. You still can set a recording as long as you set the recording channel as av2.Make sure the scart lead is fully in on dvd and tv,this can lead to no pic but sound,or sound no pic

I have a vhs/hq ..i have visual but no audio for a program i recorded last thursday. I tried recording from tv now and still no sound but picture. I played other movies or previous recorded things in vhs...

Try first to ensure that the scart lead at the back of the set or any AV leads that you are using are secure and tight.

Sometimes if the scart lead is not pushed home correctly it will lose audio. Try then to record a sample of video and try playback.
If there is still no sound try another scart lead first.

It will be a process of elimination I'm afraid.

Cable hook-ups for TV, Satellite Box, DVD, VCR

Use SCART lead from Sat. box to VCR input( so you can record progs.) then another SCART lead from VCR output to TV set AV1 input. Connect DVD (player only I presume) direct to AV2 input of TV set using another SCART lead.
Hope all this works O.K.
Note:- If DVD is also a recorder then you don't need VCR as a recording device and leads will need to be altered accordingly, of course!!

Sir I have just acquired a Sony DVD recorder model no. RDR-GX350. I have an LG LCD TV and a Sky HD Box and I have connected the recorder to the TV with an 'S' lead and I can play a DVD, I can't set up the...

Thanks, but no thanks, in the long run it is better to get a technician in to sort it, more expensive yes, but not so traumatic as trying to deal with someone by typing in answers to questions, the man I dealt with assured me I had two scart plugs on my TV. I only have one, so he said it can't be done, end of story.

Similar problem as you helped me solve before.

OK, I think I see the problem there.
The aerial lead from the DVDR to TV should be removed.
You should have it setup the same as the other Freeview - VCR - TV
Nutshell time:
Main aerial to Freeview input.
Loop aerial from freeview output to DVDR areial input (all this does is allow you to watch freeview, or standard both out of the DVDR)
So..
Scart from Freeview to DVDR input
Scart from DVDR output to TV
Set DVDR to AV input mode.
Set TV to AV (whatever number you need for that..you now won't get anything on screen unless you have the right input selected)

If you can now see the Freeview picture on the TV and change the channels with the Freeview remote then you should be set for recording.

Having the aerial and a scart lead both going to the TV is not needed.

Can't re patch tv with set top box to watch tv

Hi.

Ok here goes.

1) Take airial lead from the wall socket in to antenna in on freeview box.

2) connect short usually black airial type lead in to antenna out socket on freeview. plug the other end of this lead in to aerial in on vcr.

3) connect the other end of this aerial type lead to airial plug on the back of tv.

4) now if you have 2 or more scart sockets on the back of tv set plug in the scarts in this order.
Freeview box scart with tv on it connect to scart 1 on tv set.
Freeview box vcr scart connect to vcr in scart socket on vcr.
Vcr scart marked tv plug scart from here to scart 2 on tv
If you have 3 scart sockets on tv you can connect dvd using scart to scart socket 3 on tv.

If Tv has only 1 scart the aerial leads will stay the same as I have stated,
Freeview must go to scart socket on tv set.
leave second scart from freeview to vcr plugged in so you can record freeview by putting vcr to line 1 or AV 1.
you will need to put tv on channel (0) & tune this channel to the video play a tape that you recognise then go to tv tuning & tune tv untill you see video playing then store this on channel (0).
DO NOT USE AUTO TUNING IT WILL PUT CHANNELS IN THE WRONG ORDER JUST USE MANUAL TUNING.

Now to view Dvd you will either need to purchase A scart switch box. Or have keep unpluging freeview scart from tv so you can plug in dvd .

If your tv has red yellow white phono sockets you can plug dvd in to these, you may need to purchase phono leads.

Hope this helps.
