Canon PIXMA MP 500 ink refills stop working

The refills have ink in the tank, but the printer will not use it. How do I override the printer so it will use the refill?

  • Ragoon May 03, 2008

The ink I bought did not come with a ink refill reseter. How do I get the reseter?

  • Ragoon May 03, 2008

The printer will use some refills for a time then stop & some refills the printer will not use the cartridge at all. The place that refilled the ink cartridges for me did not know how to get the printer to over ride the printers out of ink alert.

Well then, replace the old cartridge and find one that which you think still in good conditions, then start over...refill it again and do the test if it will print..

Post back again, and hear more about your response to this..

Cheers!!

Press the OK button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank.

  • Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled. And you can use your refilled ink. But my opinion is use original ink cartridge for good quality printing and for long life of your printer.

Please post your feed-back.
Good Luck

When u refill the cartridge and put it in the printer, the printer will warn u about refilled cartridges. Then printer will ask u to disable the ink level detecting. The printer will ask u to press stop/reset button for about 5 seconds and it wont detect ink levels anymore. I think this is the only way to use refilled cartridges in MP500.

This is problem with the refilled cartridges, they only for 4 to 5 times and they spoil the cart, To solve your printing problem use original ink cart it will solve the problem..............(note : printer company do not support refilled cart )

Try to remove and reset the ink tanks

  • Ekse May 03, 2008

Try this reset. Its a general process for canon printers might not work with yours but give it a try.

    (1) Turn off the printer.
    (2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.
    (3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in
succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will "reset"
or move momentarily. If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the
    "Service Mode".
    (4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp
will alternate (change) color with each key press.
    1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check.
    2. EEPROM - Info printout.
    3. EEPROM - Initialization.
    4. Reset the Waste ink counter.
    5. Printer model setting. (More selections beyond this point - However it is best leave them unaltered - You have been warned!)
After selecting the desired mode (eg 4), press the POWER button to "set" the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu. Press the POWER button again to restart the printer.

When you insert a refilled ink cartridge into your Pixma MP500 printer you should get a warning about the refilled cartridge. You should also be prompted, asking if you wish to disable ink level detecting. Agree to do so, and you won’t get the warnings again because the ink levels won’t be monitored by the printer.

    That should fix the problem

remember to accept my solution if this solves it.

Resetting the cartridge icons on MP 480 printer after refilling cartrdges

I found that if you just hold down the 'stop' button with the little red icon on it for a few seconds, it resets the ink. But the cartridge has to have the error message that says it is completely out of ink, not just low on ink. Hold it down for a few seconds until it starts processing. It will check the cartridge, and then it worked for me!

Refilling Ink in Canon Pixma MP830

Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.
