I have the same problem. The way I've been fixing it is to hold the power button for about 10 seconds to force it to switch off. Then it usually works. When that didn't work, I left it on until the battery completely died, then charged it up and turned it on. That seemed to work.

I have this same player. To load a song w/o video, try plugging the player into your PC, open "My Computer" from the menu on your PC and then look for the player icon, and click on it to open. The player should have come w/software to do the same thing, but it only needs to be used for a video/song upload, or converting different formats to MP3 for the player (like FLV from YouTube).
Reset All NOTE: THIS IS AN ADVANCED OPERATION AND RESTORES ALL SETTINGS TO THE FACTORY DEFAULTS. NORMAL USERS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED TO PERFORM THIS OPERATION! If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds. This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation will be gone.....
IF that doesn't work try to recover...download the update software and install then lock your sansa hold in the rec key on the left at the same time push the menu/power button this will take you to recovery mode then connect to the computer Star the update software if it doesn't start automatic goto /start /all programs /Sandisk/sansa updater/ sansa updater and start it up manually... follow instructions on the updater and the sansa hope this works.... Please rate
I would recommend you to go to the sandisk site to update the firmware on your device or you can contact sandisk to they can help you with updating the firmware on your device..I think the reason you are getting that screen is because you have formatted it under my computer...next time you want to format it use the windows media player instead.
