When faxing it's saying phone line error what does this mean?

That indicates that there is static or interference on the phone line. You will need to call your phone service provider for them to test the line.

These errors mean that the communications have failed, and can mean that the receiver at the other end has terminated the call prematurely.
If the problem occurs with the same destination, then the receiver fax may be the problem.
If the error persists try disabling ECM

CRC error in answerback. It means the error correction digits didn't match the data that was sent. I've seen a few cases where this was bad phone line conditions - once I could see the phone lines scraping against the gutters in the storm outside the window - but usually it's a flaky Main Board in the fax.
Unplugging all the cables on the board and plugging them back in might clean a bad connection, but we're seldom that lucky.

You configure you fax program.Such as line type,fax number,or you follow user manual,how can use it?
It is problem setup or configure not problem machine.

Receiving fax never picked.

It could be line noise on the phone.., which allows phones to work ok, but causes problems with faxes. See this document from the brother website concerning comm.error:

Would recommend having the phone company run a line check to make sure the phone line is clean of interference !

Verify that you have a dial-tone by plugging a regular phone into the wall jack

Make sure the phone cord is plugged into the LINE jack..

Dial the number from a regular phone and listen for fax tones.

fax error 232 indicates a communication failure between the sending and receiving units. I'd check for line noise on the phone (you can hear it as cracks and pops) If your fax line is not dedicated, any noise from another phone pickup or an answwering machine can cause the failure.

That codes says:

"Redial count over with no response
or busy tone was not detected.
Note:
U.S.A. and Canadian models
will redial only once if a busy
tone is not detected."

The number you're dialing was first busy. When it went to redial, it detected no phone signal on the other end. If it happens to only 1 or 2 customers, then it's something to do with their lines and you can't fix that.
If it happens often, then get your phone lines checked out by your phone company, make sure your fax is not sharing the line with another other device and make sure it is not a digital line.
Other than that, you're looking at having to replace the main board in the fax. Which basically means it's time for a new fax machine.

Try turning the ECM off. It belongs to the FAX SETUP menu and is explained in the user's manual.
